Eddington Quote on Carnegie Mellon Wall

Went to see our neighbor, Terry Collins, receive a Heinz Chair for Green Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon. Teresa Heinz and her sons were there and it was a nice ceremony.  Plus, he received an actual chair which was red, in addition to the prestigious post! When I left the award reception I passed by a slope of azaleas in full bloom and tried to make sense of the quote on the wall in front of me.  Sir Arthur Eddington.  You will probably figure it out much quicker than I did. If you want further thought on topic of entropy click on word.

Hint: You have to start at the end and read backwards. Something to think about.

Pittsburgh Filmmakers Harris Theater Downtown

Refurbished and renamed in 1995.

Saturday night and the neon lights glow.  We’re waiting for Steve to get the car in the parking garage. No tripod but a slim tree trunk, the cable remote.  Evokes another era.  I realize I’ve photographed at least 3 other vintage movie theaters. Pittsburgh Filmmakers screens the Film Festival here and at Regent Square and Melwood.  Another restored theater  in Wisconsin(click to see)

1984- Moment in Motherhood/Childhood

Grafenwoehr Germany. Under the kitchen sink!  One of my favorite photos of Mark, Matthew and Laura.  Everyone laughing, having  a good time. (Mark’s own children are about their ages now). How they decided to get in the cupboard I don’t know but looking at this picture always makes me happy. Scanner not working so photographed the photo.

Who makes me a mom?
Looks like an oven rack or a cooling rack in Matthew's hands. Laughing under the sink.

Ritter’s Diner

Just after arriving from Sleepy Hollow, NY, my cousin Lori, husband Fredi, her college freshman roommate Patricia( who lives here in Pittsburgh), & my friend Steve met at Ritter’s.   Can’t remember the last time I ‘d been in there.  They’re on their way to Cincinnati to see friends. May 19th Lori will be Honorary Bat Girl for the Yankees and throw out the first pitch!(click link) She won the contest. Tonight she  photographed her Peanut Butter pancakes but I forgot to photograph the food. I had two eggs over, wheat toast with butter on the side. Scroll down for gallery.

Is this a true green building you hear so much about in Pittsburgh?

Model Railroad Mother Hangs Out Wash

Somedays it’s fun to play.  The era is supposed to be c.1936.  My mother pinned clothes on a merry-go-round contraption with a center metal pole, stuck in a concrete surrounded hole. The needs-to-be-oiled sounds of a pulley as the clothesline is reeled out with colors, shapes and flags. Whipping around in the breeze, drying in the sun.  The smell of a pillowcase on a clean bedsheet that earlier flapped on the line. I bought these at the Hobby Shop.  Read about HO scale .

Just reading about HO scale on WikiPedia. Miniatures appeal to me.

Amazing Blind Marathon Runner and His Guide

Googled to see if I could get information about the blind marathon runner and his guide.   I was photographing Laura’s friends @Mile 20, saw the shark run by, anything distinctive, colorful or interesting, runners getting the crowd going. How about this to make you wonder, what is your excuse for not being out there running?   Cpt. Ivan Castro and his guide Lt. Col. Fred Dummar up from Fort Bragg, NC received hearty cheers as they rounded Bryant Street corner. Nice article in Post-Gazette about the two Iraq war veterans.

What a dynamic duo running the Pittsburgh Marathon, Sunday May 2nd.

Synchronized Marathon Spectators Sport Umbrellas

The marathon winding down, this pair caught my eye.
