Handcrafted Charcuterie in Twisp, WA

Chris Thomson shows off his handcrafted charcuterie. In the meat case- Andouille and chorizo sausages. Some smoked and some fresh sausages, sausages for breakfast, Italian sausages, you name it! The local restaurants had bought up all the bacon today. Thomson’s Custom Meats LLC 992 Twisp-Carlton Road, Twisp, Washington 98856. Turn off Route 20. Known for natural, locally grown meat. A flock of Katahdin sheep grazing outside his shop. Free Range chickens. He said I should go with them to photograph them as they catch the salmon they’ll smoke in the smokehouse real soon. He gets the salmon with the shortest migration so they have a higher fat content. Phone# 509-449-1563. Check out his website for more information. He’ll process your game by appointment, too!

First stop coffee and breakfast rolls at Cinnamon Twisp Bakery, then Methow Valley Chamber Music Festival Barn where we heard world class musicians open rehearsal. We drove to Twisp and Winthrop then on to the North Cascades Goat Mountain. We hiked a steep trail to see mountains in haze from wildfires in British Columbia. No guardrails on the narrow gravel road that wound up the mountain. Made it back to Malott in time for the Friday night Sirloin Steak Specials(that’s Caesar Salad & Garlic Bread & Baked Potato) August 7th plan- Farmer’s Market, call La for her bday!

Looked dangerous to me. They were far away. Shot with a 24-70 mm L series lens. Cropped to see the guys jump off the rocks into the alkaline lake. There are three views of the same frame, figures jumping get smaller and smaller. A mini-slideshow.
On the Colville Tribal Reservation, “Omak Lake, the largest saline lake in Washington, is located southeast of Omak. It lies mostly within a steep-walled valley and is the principal body of water in the Omak Lake watershed. Omak Lake has no outlet and is fed by drainage from the surrounding hills and plateaus and from several inlet streams.”

Everything is hazy due to wildfires in the mountains. Stehekin area. Smoke across the landscape in Eastern Washington. Reardan WA, population 600 in 2000 census. On the way from the Spokane Airport with my sister, driving a rental to our brother’s in Okanogan. Long day of travel. Wheat fields on either side of the 2 lane road. Grain elevators in the background. It’s almost a 3 hour drive from the airport to his place near the Columbia River.
