The end of the day. Time to go inside the house and read by a good light before bed. Looking forward to coffee on the front porch in the morning. Summer porch season is the best.

Night Light on the Holocaust Sculpture “Keeping Tabs”
I was wondering what I’d post following the dedication post of the Gary and Nancy Tuckfelt Holocaust Sculpture from yesterday. Thank you for the thoughtful comments and for sharing it with those who were unable to attend.
And then the artist Elena Hiatt Houlihan called me Monday night to say she’d taken photographs of Keeping Tabs at night with a borrowed tripod.
She said to me, “You have to see it at night. The light is beautiful.”
I was half asleep-
but after we hung up, I pulled jeans over my pjs, threw on a coat and grabbed a hat. I drove up Beechwood Boulevard to photograph the sculpture even though Elena had already left. It was 10 PM.
My tripod was at school in my classroom so I took up a Swifter with a flat top pole to steady my camera.
No moonlight to help the effort.
As I got out of the car, I saw the light reflecting off the six million pop tabs encased in the glass blocks. All was quiet. It was moving.
I was all alone until a single figure arrived and entered the sculpture for a time.
I tried a number of settings, shutter speeds, aperture and white balance, trying to get the best quality shot I could, given lack of tripod or remote cable. It was in the low 40’s and I was wishing I had my tripod. Night photography takes practice.

Adjective defined by Merriam-Webster : a word belonging to one of the major form classes in any of numerous languages and typically serving as a modifier of a noun to denote a quality of the thing named, to indicate its quantity or extent, or to specify a thing as distinct from something else
and the Writing Centre University of Ottawa has an accessible definition and examples (not that you need them but I was refreshing my grammar knowledge)
An adjective modifies a noun or a pronoun by describing, identifying, or quantifying words. An adjective usually precedes the noun or the pronoun which it modifies.
In the following examples, the highlighted words are adjectives:
- The truck-shaped balloon floated over the treetops.
- Mrs. Morrison papered her kitchen walls with hideous wall paper.
- The small boat foundered on the wine dark sea.
- The coal mines are dark and dank.
- Many stores have already begun to play irritating Christmasmusic.
- A battered music box sat on the mahogany sideboard.
- The back room was filled with large, yellow rain boots.

The setting sun and the lights coming up from the pool made an interesting contrast of color and light. The photograph has limitations in illustrating the mood.

Thursday night. Just finished shooting a poet for her chapbook photo at Frick Fine Arts. Started to rain. Stabilize camera on a sycamore tree. Experiment with wet pavement/light reflections. Cable remote so no camera shake. Cathedral of Learning behind. Enter stage left- Woman in a raspberry sherbet coat, a huge black umbrella strolls into line of vision.
