You Have to be Certain of Edibility. You Can’t Guess

Fungi. There are so many different types. Yes, there are many that are edible. But there are others that are poisonous. The one in the photo did not tempt me. I can’t picture it on a plate. Perhaps you know what it is.

Seen on a Walk

I couldn’t identify this growth even with all the photos-there are so many interesting names of Fungi – from Milky Caps to Hairy Cushion. There are corals, hoofs, shelfs and caps. There are fungi named Hedgehogs or Turkey Tail. Even a false morel.

The authors say in their guide “Although we provide information about edibility in this guide, DO NOT eat any mushroom unless you are absolutely certain of its identity: many mushroom species look alike and some species are highly poisonous.”

Echinacea

“The generic name is derived from the Greek word ἐχῖνος (ekhinos), meaning “sea urchin“, due to the spiny central disk”

Have You Eaten a Pickled Egg?

This jar of Jalapeño eggs was spotted in Zanesville, Ohio when I stopped to use the restroom at the gas station on the way back to Pittsburgh. I bet these eggs are hot! They were right next to the jars of pickled beets. They got me thinking about pickled eggs I found an article in Mental Floss why bars sell pickled eggs which I really didn’t know much about. I also learned there are recipes in case you want to pickle some hard boiled eggs- here’s a recipe for pink pickled eggs from The Guardian

But if it’s the Jalapeño Eggs you want to taste and you can’t find a jar like I did, these take just seven days to make.

An End of the Day Birthday Song

Look who gave me the gift of a birthday song video.

Sam Barsky and his Artistic Sweaters came to Yarns by Design in Oakmont PA in 2019 summer and I blogged it. Click on his link to see the list of sweaters he’s knit. Here are a few of his artistic designs.

An April 2018 New York Times Article by Laura M Holson It’s Sweater Weather Forever states:

“Samuel Barsky has gained a measure of fame online for posting photographs of himself in front of famous landmarks with his handmade sweaters.”

Thanks Sam. What a great surprise.

Maura Helped Me Out this Afternoon

Lighting candles at St. Patrick Church near the statue of St. Joseph, Maura helped me out this afternoon. I’d given her a ten as she was headed out the door. Asked her to light five as they’re two dollars each. Take a picture, I called to her. She did exactly that!

The candles will burn for hours in that holy space, throughout the nights. It’s an intention to remember friends and family who are ill, going through a difficult time, experiencing loss snd grief, facing treatment and or surgery, recovering from surgery, expecting a baby. A candle can be lit in gratitude and thanksgiving, too, whatever you believe.

A candle seems a universal symbol for hope. A way to let someone know you are keeping them in your heart. Thanks, Maura.
