Late October Iris

About as late in October as you can get. October 29th in the front garden

Almost November

First Harvest

Fortunately I have a friend who has an abundance of garden tomatoes.

Cleome – Spider Flowers

Cleome, (an annual that sometimes self-seeds) in a neighbor’s yard

I thought it was pretty in a neighbor’s garden as we walked to the park.

When I researched it, the reports on the smell ranged from slight skunk-like, musty, strong- like citronella – I didn’t stick my nose in the blossom so didn’t notice any scent.

Bleeding Hearts in Bloom

One of my favorites in the garden. Bleeding Heart Lamprocapnos spectabilis

The little heart shaped flowers dangle in the breeze

Crocuses or Croci ?

One the vernacular, one is proper Latin terms according to the article in Gardens Illustrated

But look at this field of plural crocus! My sister visited the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Sunday afternoon and she sent me some photos that featured signs of Spring.

Season of Lights in the Darkness

From the Archives Nov. 29, 2018 Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens but there’s a new display in place now Holiday Magic Holiday Magic! Winter Flower Show and Light Garden 2022. (Advance tickets required)

As the days grow shorter, the colorful lights help relieve the darkness.

My Tomato Harvest this Season

Who knew that deer would come in the night and eat the tomato plants. They missed one. I picked it today. I got one yesterday, too.

But you couldn’t tell it was a cherry tomato by the photo. So I added the nickel today. My friend said she’d come over with her canning equipment.
