Matty, Your Age is Your Lacrosse Number Today
Happy 33! I found this drawing from your birthday post from three years ago and saw the Lacrosse number. I am thinking of you and hoping someone is celebrating your birthday with you in Croatia. Missing you.
Birthday box on the way. 6-10 business days they said. Hope it makes it. I ‘m inserting Richie Havens singing “Wonder Child”. We’ve enjoyed Richie a couple of times when we were together so thought it was a good birthday song.
Here is the colored pencil drawing I am making for you with Little Green Doggie, Lego, Playmobil, St Nicholas made with a walnut and upside down apple from German Kindergarten. ( You can see the Lacrosse #) Love you, Ma
It was your idea to start blogging for birthdays and it’s a wonderful idea. Love to you in Croatia

<3 Responsible Dog Owners
Photographed during a walk this summer, I’m always trying to keep up…. as I was looking for a photo to post tonight, I was reminded me of an ongoing issue in the city. Probably in most cities and towns across the nation.
There are responsible dog owners (xxooxx) and irresponsible dog owners :-(.
You read about it on the neighborhood list-serve. Complaints. Or see it when you take a walk in the nearby park. Or find a deposit on your lawn. Uh-oh. I think there are more responsible dog owners than not but thought this was a good illustration of a couple of responsible ones.

Museum of Broken Relationships, Zagreb, Croatia
At least a year ago, my friend Connie W. from Florida, sent a newspaper article from an Ocala paper about the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb Croatia. Connie must have read it and thought of Matthew, my son who lives there. I asked him one time about it and then another time and we didn’t talk about it or mention it for along while. Then I said I hope he could take Flat Ruthie there as I thought it would be an interesting place to visit. Then Flat Ruthie went missing. And besides Flat Ruthie hasn’t really had any relationships to break up that I’m aware of………….
Today in my email I received photographs of his visit to the Museum of Broken Relationships. Here is what Matthew wrote:
My Blog-following friends- Sasha, Ana Maria and Tanja asked if I had taken Flat Ruthie to the Museum of Broken Relationships. I hadn’t. So we decided to go together and take some pics for the Blog. Flat Ruthie was too busy exploring the remote reaches of my desk drawers, so she opted not to join us this time. I bought a Bad Memories Eraser for Mom at the gift shop, but a few hours later ran into a friend who needed it more. Her boyfriend has gone to NYC to play the drums.
I wonder what she’ll donate to the museum: a pair of scuffed sticks or an abandoned ride cymbal? Hopefully, she’ll update us when she decides – Matthew
It isn’t just the objects. It is the stories behind the objects.

I am so happy you all encouraged MAtthew to go to the museum!!!
I am not sure to whom the credit should go to for the photo of Matthew at the entrance. Let me know and I can edit the post.

Paris in Pittsburgh
Sunday afternoon, Steve and I were walking across the Schenley Bridge on our way to the Carnegie Library in Oakland. We saw lots of shiny things reflecting the sun. As we got closer, I saw combination and key padlocks.
Not sure when these locks started showing up on Pittsburgh Bridges but this was the first time I’ve seen them.
Love Padlocks or Lovelocks, they’re called.
They signify “everlasting love” according to the entry at Wikipedia. And they aren’t just in Paris. There is a whole list of cities – Prague, Rome, Zurich, London, Moscow, Dublin, Sydney. The padlocks are controversial as some deem them unsightly and akin to litter. Eyesores. Too much weight on some bridges.
Other citizens are outraged when they’re cut off from public bridges around the world. Not sure what the stance is here in Pittsburgh-these additions to the Schenley Bridge over Panther Hollow. Guess time will tell.
We were able to see names or initials inscribed on them, dates. Most of the padlocks hung from one section of fencing.
Just now I read that the padlock keys are thrown under the bridge.
I remembered seeing a photo of a ton of padlocks on a Parisian bridge in a Weekly Photo Challenge from WordPress: LOVE (click to see photo of Paris Bridge)
and if you want to read the list of locations around the world and see more photos of love locks, click here.
If you look at bridges around the world sporting Love Padlocks, Pittsburgh is going to have to go some to catch up!

Murphy the Airedale- A Family’s Best Friend
Murphy Joseph McGrath. Murphy passed today. He just turned 11. He was patient, loving, loyal, humorous and adored by everyone. What a personality!
It is a very sad day for the family.
If you’ve been following the blog you’ve seen his photograph many times. I swear he smiled for the camera.
He was one of the first posts on the blog, Murphy Waits for Michael.
So many of you expressed sympathy recently on the passing of Erika’s parents Italian Greyhound, Cleo. It’s been a hard month.
Today’s tribute is for Mark and Erika’s, Anna, Michael, Jack and Maura’s dear sweet boy- Murphy!
When Mark and Erika brought each of the babies home from the hospital, Murphy was there to welcome them into the family. Murphy was a pup before M & E got married. He was a loving and well loved member of the family. ( Erika would get mad at me if I called him “dog”)
There are no words to describe the sadness, the missing. You may remember the photos from his Tenth Birthday post last year.
Anna is nine now but here she is just home from Mercy Hospital

Weekly Photo Challenge: Love
Love, love, love.
All you need is love.
Love is all you need.
I liked the Paris bridge photo with all the locks on it posted on WordPress’ Daily Post that tells what the weekly challenge is. LOVE!
My thought was some wedding couples. Went to the archives.
As I looked for the pics to post I saw a series I put up last Father’s Day and since it is Murphy’s 11th birthday I decided that he would be the one to best illustrate the definition of love.
I know Max and Mingus and Coltrane
and Rumpy Dog will agree I made the right choice for today’s challenge. Not sure how Isobelandcat feel about Murphy.
Happy Birthday Murphy. With much love from your family. You exemplify love! Pure and unconditional love.
Weekly Photo Challenge: What Makes Me Happy?
The weekly photo challenge this week is a multi-photo challenge using one of the new gallery formats that WordPress created. The suggestion was to include a gallery of nine photos. I was talking on the phone with my friend V and she said Oh, that’s an easy one. Your family!
I added fireworks and raspberries for celebration and summertime. Seeing Michael so happy receiving a medal at a dive meet this summer made my nine photos tally an even dozen.
The family numbers added up quickly. I decided to show what really makes me happiest!
Witnessing my family love one another. Watching Erika enjoy her children ride the Merry-Go-Round at the zoo, James catching Laura in his arms, celebrating Anna’s First Holy Communion weekend with the family. And Steve playing with the grandkids.
All of these photos make a mom’s heart sing.
