My Sister’s Magical Trick

This photo was taken in NYC 2011 but in the mid fifties this teeny elephant assisted my sister in making me stop crying. She’d be in charge (babysitting) and I’d be sad my parents went out. She would make this elephant appear and then she’d make it fly away and disappear. I’m not sure how many times she repeated this act but I remember believing it was magic.

Don’t know who crocheted this little elephant

Late Afternoon at U of Pitt Campus

Friday afternoon  I was photographing senior portraits of two young women by the Cathedral of Learning at Pitt. ( no one actually says “University of Pittsburgh”)

In between their outfit changes, I photographed the tall tower in different lights.

Then a bride and groom walked by, just married!

I asked if I might photograph them and they said,  sure!

I even asked the groom to move a bit so his mouth wasn’t hidden. Sweet.

Those were some killer heels (in blue)

And then a woman walked by with balloons.

There was a beautiful tree

It was fun to see some different sights.  And capture them, too.

All in all it was a magical afternoon, especially with the unexpected barefoot bride and the balloon woman.

Magic is the weekly photo challenge.

Cuckoo’s Nest Magic Shop

Last night of class at Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild and my weekly  trip to the South Side. Just before the sky grew dark and the giant hail storm arrived. I scoped out The Cuckoo’s Nest Magic Shop in a new location since June.

Juggling supplies, balls, clubs and rings,  nests of boxes, a vase filled with wands, colorful balloons you can sculpt into animals- a carousel of Folkmanis and Melissa and Doug puppets, decks of cards and and everything a magician  (or clown or bartender) needs to entertain an audience.  Matt was nice enough to demonstrate the Magical Block trick for me after I asked what was a good trick for a beginner to learn. You can purchase it for 4 bucks!   His masterful sleight of hand changed a penny into a dime, right before my eyes!

Abracadabra

When Mark was in Kindergarten
he was a magician for the talent show
and poured a pitcher of plain water into two vessels
The water changed into blue and red.
It looked magical.  I made his a black cape
and he had a a tall hat and a wand.
