Pittsburgh Marathon Sparks Admiration
Today was the Pittsburgh Marathon. Admiration was abundant.
Anyone who sets out to run 26.2 miles deserves admiration. Here are a few highlights.
Laura and Charles were visiting from Columbus and Steve accompanied us down the hill to the 20 mile marker spot.
I started to photograph a couple of men is some crazy wedding gowns, which from a distance made me think they were togas.
As I photographed them, it turns out one was my good friend’s son. He recognized me first.
Tony told me they were wearing the costumes, running for a charity fundraiser Project R.U.N., (Reaching Underserved Neighborhoods) getting kids running shoes if they need them, providing nutrition education and transportation to the marathon and free registrations and “promotes healthy and active lifestyles”
I was filled with admiration. Nice job, men!
Running in costumes for charity fundraiser. This just in IT is not too late to donate to Project R.U.N. here is the linkDonate to Project R.U.N. until May 31
I can’t imagine running a marathon but in a full length wedding gown?
Okay Tony. We get the message. Six more miles to go!

When a Dog Smiles at the Camera
You have to take a picture. I asked the owner’s permission. She looked as if she had just been on a run or about to go on one with some friends.
His name is Oliver!
Oliver is a Heinz 57 mutt and he was smiling for the camera!
He’s six months old and has that puppy energy and enthusiasm. What a happy guy.
I’d just come out of the end of the year faculty meeting/gathering at the Hofbrauhaus on the edge of South Side Works near the riverfront trail.
So thanks Oliver (and your owner also- sorry I didn’t get your name)
I know Murphy smiles for the camera, too.
Amazing Blind Marathon Runner and His Guide
Googled to see if I could get information about the blind marathon runner and his guide. I was photographing Laura’s friends @Mile 20, saw the shark run by, anything distinctive, colorful or interesting, runners getting the crowd going. How about this to make you wonder, what is your excuse for not being out there running? Cpt. Ivan Castro and his guide Lt. Col. Fred Dummar up from Fort Bragg, NC received hearty cheers as they rounded Bryant Street corner. Nice article in Post-Gazette about the two Iraq war veterans.
