The Final Fire Drill and Floral Bouquets

Something smoking in in the culinary room.  You know how easily the smoke alarms  go off when you burn toast at home.

You always know it isn’t just a drill when you hear the trucks come. All was checked out and fine.

My June Plans Revealed at School Friday Afternoon

During seventh period my door got decorated as a surprise, courtesy of Ms. McCann and a team of The Future Is Mine students.

I got some lovely words from some sweet teenagers as they read the door.

In January. I’d put in my letter of intent to retire at the end of this school year and told the adults but hadn’t shared with the students.  Now they can help me celebrate.

Today it feels real. 🎓🎉🎏😃

Thanks Ms. McCann

Pittsburgh Skyline, Incline and Sea of Fog

Pittsburgh in Fog

Made the decision to turn right at the mouth of the Liberty Tunnel, go to Mount Washington and photograph the city in fog on the way to school this morning.

I thought the above shot was best with the gift of light on the incline car, as it prepared to head down the mountain. No tripod although there was a man with one.  I stabilized my camera on the iron fence.

IMG_9344

Of course, the light changes every moment as the sunrises in the east.  All shots taken with 24-70 lens on the Canon 5D Mark ii

One vertical shot. Light and dark/ Cloud and shadow.

Trying to get the best view in the frame.

Being there. looking at the city in the fog,  was a magnificent experience. The limits of photography.

It felt like being in a plane but you’re standing on a concrete platform by the incline, looking at the city disappear in a foggy sea. Wasn’t it just last week I was photographing the icy river and the barge lane?  Today felt like early Spring.

IMG_9358Three young men agreed to let me capture their silhouettes. Thanks guys.  I’ll email them  the blog post link today.

Find the Typo on My Colleague’s Clock

Monday morning at Common Planning period, my colleague took her clock off the wall to spring forward an hour and showed me the face.
She had told me it had a typo and to read it carefully.
So I read it outloud.

We had a good laugh.
Six bucks at Family Dollar Store.

Thank you Lauren for the good idea for a blog post!

Winter Sun and Shadow at School

As I arrived, I noticed sunlight.

It’s been pretty gray around here.  Twenty four days until Spring.

Winter City

DSC03211

Just the tips of the top of the PPG building, reminded me of a sandcastle at the beach.

And up over the hill, the rest of the skyline.

You can see the barge lane in the middle of the icy Monongahela River. Don’t let the blue sky fool you, it was really cold.

DSC03223

A panorama taken with the Sony Mirrorless camera. First time I used this feature.

DSC03210

This was actually the first shot Monday afternoon as I pulled out of the school lot.

First time the sun had shown itself in awhile.

Snowfall on St. Peter and Paul School

East Liberty, Larimer Avenue.

The empty school sits behind the twin-spired church, the one that’s closed.

I saw the architecture through the snow-

from the lot where I was parking.

Moonlight Commute

Headed to the garage, time for school.

I make tentative choices- try to place my feet

When I unlock the car,  the rear lights show where it’s rough on the

temporary ice rink.

Thaw and melt

makes frozen glass on top of gravel and mud.    I saw the moon.

Down the slick hill to the main road,

I pulled over, waited for cloud cover to move

A couple of grainy cell phone pics,  try to capture the moon, the mood-

then off to work.

New Semester Starts Tomorrow – Serene Thoughts Tonight

Last gallery of Serenity as the challenge of the week will change Friday.

Rainee of All About Words blog was correct in her comment  “Isn’t it interesting how often water, nature, children and pets feature in Serenity? Might be something powerful to remember here”
