My School Neighbor Gave Me These- Said They Look Like Me

A couple of weeks ago, my next door neighbor at school put out a call for a poster about reading.

There was to be a state inspection and a visual aid encouraging reading was on the checklist. When I saw her in the hall, I offered a collage of photographs of students reading their favorite books.  She was thrilled and one of her students created a large poster with the photos and added some text about the benefits of reading.

It looked good and she told me it was well received by the inspection team.  My colleague was pleased.  And grateful.  I wish I had a photo of the finished poster to include in this post but it is at school.

As a thank you, she brought me this unexpected gift.

She said when she saw them at the store, they reminded her of me.  I looked in the mirror and I see the resemblance!

When I saw the smiling face socks,  I thought of fellow blogger Stef and her Smile, Kiddo blog. Always on the lookout for smiles.

Here’s a link to a cool post titled What I Like About Me.

Right now the high school students are working on creating images for a positive image campaign so it’s a great post for that theme.

Easter Decorations in the City

Electric lights and tinselly garland for Easter time in Pittsburgh?  Not my house.

and Laura (who was born in Germany) said she would like to make an Easter Tree so I am taking her the German Easter decorations.  Feels good to pass them on. I remember when we moved to Germany at EAster time and on the table in the Gasthaus was a platter of earth and real green grass growing with colored eggs peeking out of the grass.  It was so pretty and inviting.  The tablecloth is from our former exchange student Yvonne.

Texas Bluebonnets Through a Rental Van Windshield

They are everywhere.

As far as the eye can see.

Bluebonnet wildflowers.  Beautiful color of blue, the Lupinus Texensis is the state flower of Texas.

I photographed (70-200 Canon L series lens) the wildflowers on the way to the San Antonio airport last Sunday.

Was NOT the driver of the rental van but the passenger. (Thanks Rick)  Figure we were going about 70 mph so the blue is a bit of a blur.

Henry the Airedale Terrier is One Already

There are lots of ways to mark the passage of time.  You rip the calendar pages off and suddenly a whole year has passed!

When I was at school, I saw there was a missed call and a voicemail from my DIL Erika.

Later when I didn’t have students I listened on the phone’s speaker.

The message was a howling/animal crying and then my granddaughter Anna(10) saying, “Henry, stop it.  That’s enough. ”  Then some more doggy  crying and Anna saying, ” Aww Henry don’t feel bad.”

When Erika got on the phone when I called back, she said that Henry ran to the computer first thing this morning and was sad he wasn’t featured on the blog today, celebrating his first birthday.

So Anna took some photos and I PROMISED Hnery would be on the blog before the end of the day.  Forgetful Grandma!

The thoughtful breeder, Diana McKenna,  remembered and sent a card via email and E forwarded it to me.  Screen shot below.

Here is the photo of the family getting ready to take Henry back to Ohio from Michigan. Thanks Diana.

Erika sent a photo of the birthday Airedale biscuits she baked for Henry’s first bday. I’ll have to get the recipe.

Thanks Anna for the photos. Nice job.

You might remember the shot of the grandchildren with Henry at his first Christmas. He made the blog then. Or the time he knocked at the back door. He was on the blog that day too.

Perusing the archives in a different computer.  I know this STREET LIFE challenge could go on and on and on……Will stop now. I really liked it, though.  Guess you can tell.

It’s fun to scan the files for forgotten photos you might not post otherwise.
