Retro Party Mix Recipe printed on the box the year I was born

Chex Mix

“It’s likely that versions of party mix were enjoyed throughout the late 1930s and 1940s, but Ralston Purina didn’t begin publishing their official party mix recipe (printed on the box, of course) until 1952. It included both kinds of Chex and nuts, tossed in a combination of Worcestershire sauce, butter, garlic salt, and salt. Everything was mixed together and baked in the oven at a low temperature, then cooled and stored until ready for munching. When Corn Chex arrived on the scene in 1958, it quickly joined the party (mix).”

Fruitcake Season Has Begun

Thanks to my good friend and fruitcake baker Linda, along with her trusted team of one-Eileen! It’s fruitcake season. Here’s documentation of the unwrapping.

Former fruitcakes can be viewed here

I was waiting to reveal it until my sister arrived.

It’s the best fruitcake, ever!

Takes three days to make. Months ago. Wrapped in muslin, soaked in spirits I’ve taken it from the vintage tin where I’d stored it in the pantry until Mary could share in the slicing and eating.

With great appreciation for all that goes into making these wonderful fruitcakes. Thank you

Not Just Yellow Chicks at Easter Time-Peeps!

You know those yellow, sugar crusted marshmallows in the shape of chicks?

Mary sent Laura and family the Peeps marshmallowy gingerbread men and I saw them at her house. Then I saw the display in Pittsburgh Giant Eagle market. Would you believe there’s a Candy Cane shape that wasn’t in the store. I didn’t eat any but I wondered what flavor they were. the gingerbread man is gingerbread flavor and candy canes are peppermint flavor.

I missed Halloween monsters, skulls and pumpkins display.
