Fruitcake by Candlelight

My friends Linda and Eileen baked a delicious fruitcake and shipped it before Christmas. I guarded it carefully and was waiting for my sister to arrive for a visit. She arrived on the train from NYC Tuesday night. Tonight I unwrapped the liquor soaked muslin and sliced it by candlelight. We each ate a piece, savoring the fruits and nuts that were perfectly delicious.

Do you like fruitcake? Not everyone does. We enjoy it immensely. Thank you Linda and Eileen. Voted Best Fruitcake in the USA!

Fruitcake Season Has Begun

Thanks to my good friend and fruitcake baker Linda, along with her trusted team of one-Eileen! It’s fruitcake season. Here’s documentation of the unwrapping.

I was waiting to reveal it until my sister arrived.

It’s the best fruitcake, ever!

Takes three days to make. Months ago. Wrapped in muslin, soaked in spirits I’ve taken it from the vintage tin where I’d stored it in the pantry until Mary could share in the slicing and eating.

The first slice
With great appreciation for all that goes into making these wonderful fruitcakes. Thank you

Final Fruitcake Slice of the Season

While visiting friends in New England, the night before departure I was served this homemade fruitcake slice. I’m a fan. Many are not. It was a generous serving.

The fruitcake recipe is from a Yankee Magazine article from the 1980’s. I saw the multipage article, preserved in a plastic page protector, telling you what to do on Day one, Day two, Day three etc to make the cakes. It’s an involved process that takes time. Weeks!

This year they baked fourteen cakes! And started in late October. The loaves are wrapped in rum soaked muslin to ripen. Thank you Linda and Eileen.

They shipped me my own fruitcake before Christmas but with my sister’s help when she visited, that had been consumed. You may have seen the post of fruitcake reveal or Love it or Not post to see it wrapped in the muslin .

I felt fortunate to get another wonderful taste – until next season.

Moist, rich and flavorful, filled with dried fruit and nuts.

Love it or not?

I’ve asked before. It’s seasonal, for sure. Fruitcake reveal today. It’s the best fruitcake. Baked by Linda. It’s the absolute best, ever. I’m serious. What a lot of work. Shipped from Massachusetts. I took it out today to take in the fragrance. I had told my sister I’d wait to eat it when she came. But that’s next week. I had to see it, smell it and yes I cut a sliver. Delicious.fruitcake.

For some people Fruitcake is like kryptonite is to Superman. What’s it for you?

Annual Fruitcake Reveal

Thank you for the gift of a delicious homemade fruitcake like none other!

I’m loving that darling Tea Cozy too. No matches allowed near that muslin cloth wrapping it!

My sister Mary and I indulged today, now we are back in the Burgh.

A great way to start the new year.

Do you like fruitcake? I especially like this homemade one, chock full of wonderful ingredients.

Onion Marmalade and Homemade Fruitcake to Start the New Year

Two kinds of onions and NOT a family recipe! The onion marmalade was included in a Christmas goody box sent from Massachusetts made by Eileen. Linda was on fruitcake production. That ones a recipe held close. See the loaf wrapped in a rum soaked cloth. Homemade gifts are the best.

I had to write to ask the best way to use the onion marmalade as it was new to me. When my sister read the proposed list, she suggested The chips and dip option. I had a vat of sour cream on hand, can always count on Steve to provide the chips and couldn’t have been easier! Or tastier!

Method? Stir in. Eat. If you have leftover, it’s even better the next day.

No questions necessary to inquire how to savor the fruitcake. Thank you friends.

Tuesday’s post was Joanne’s Fruitcake recipe and a photo of a few ingredients. i asked people if they were fruitcake fans.

Monday night I’d texted Joanne, asked if she had a photo of her fruitcake cookies I could include in the post. She responded after I went to bed and said if I’d wait a day she bake them.

I woke up this morning, saw her response and here are her photos. Thank you, Joanne.
