Anthrocon Parade 2024 in Pittsburgh PA

In 2010 I posted about the Furry Convention in town for the weekend (ANTHROCON CONVENTION)  and you can click on that Link to see the photo I took in a downtown hotel that has since changed names.

The other night we saw a few furries out and about the evening of the Fourth of July when we went to see the fireworks display.

But today for the first time Steve dropped us off at the train station and Prema and I walked a couple of blocks to the  Convention Center to watch the Anthrocon Parade.

Here’s a 1:44 sec video of the parade and Prema gets a high five! Click link

On our way the nicest man named Casey asked if we would like a photo with him, he held his fur head in his hands.  Prema asked, “Do we have to pay?”  No we did not.

His character name is Zemine.  So kind of him to let Prema pose with him.  Did I mention it was about 87 degrees and 65 percent humidity?

We met some really nice parade attendees who let Prema get to the front so she could get high fives from the furry paws as they marched by. Prema also received some cool stickers from parade participants and also some bracelets of different colors.

A voice actor from Florida who had flown in to town was so helpful telling us about some of the characters as they approached. Two other welcoming Furries one dressed so perfectly as Isabelle from Animal Crossing and assisted by her friend the Animal Crossing Bag Carrier.  They were from Connecticut and generously gave Prema a yellow token with a star which I just looked up on google and it was called Animal Crossing Replica Bells from New Horizons.

These are the kind convention goers who allowed Prema to get in front of them.

Not sure what this expression meant. Tired of grandma taking pics?

Prema and I walked back to the train station and Steve picked us up.  Had to get home and frost some cupcakes for a party we were invited to.

We had the best time together but it was so hot and humid and we were wearing cotton T shirts, not full fur suits. We had to shower when we got home so we could go to the party.

and at the red light near home we saw these two at a bus stop.

A Red Light on the West End Bridge

I don’t like the shaky sensation of the bridge vibrating and feeling movement when you have to stop on it!

The light at the end of the bridge was red today as we left town.

My friend Vincie clued me in on this route to avoid going through the Ft. Pitt Tunnel.

It was Friday afternoon and there was traffic. We were headed for Ohio. Such threatening skies and heavy rain, so heavy we stopped for a bite to eat in West Virginia as we travelled the two hundred miles to Columbus. Happy we got there safely.

Here’s what I saw as we sat at the light-

Remembering Cj

Cj was born sixty years ago today.

March 2, 1964.

She was a wonderful teacher, an excellent mother, a beloved sister, an inspired writer and a good friend.

Unfortunately she passed May 23, 2018.

To see more photos, poetry and memories click this link which takes you to the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project Poe Art Page from 2011.

She taught in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and was fluent in ASL. I remember her signing with such fluid skill and feeling at a concert in East Liberty as the choir sang “Go Tell It on the Mountain”. In addition to being a fellow of the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project she was a Madwoman Poet at Carlow University
