Ellis Has To Miss His 60th Duquesne High School Reunion

This is Ellis whom I met in Cambridge Ohio. I thought he was selling eggs. Cambridge, OH on Interstate 70 is halfway between Pittsburgh and Columbus.

I’d pulled into a Cracker Barrel to buy a giant set of checkers and use the rest room.

We got to talking, he told me about the price range for the various brands of balls but I didn’t need any golf balls.

Turns out he was from my neck of the woods.  West Mifflin, McKeesport, Duquesne-  all in the Pittsburgh vicinity.

He will attend a niece’s wedding and unfortunately that’s the same day as his 60th reunion from high school.  Hope I got that all correct, sir.  Thank you.

Apalachicola FL Oyster Radio Beat Us to Publication- Guest Blog from St. George Island

Oyster Radio from Apalachicola already posted one of the photos my guest blogger Kristin sent me earlier today.  Direct from St. George Island, Florida.

This is what she saw as she looked out the window.

There was lightning and strong winds.  I asked her if she could hear anything from the waterspout.

I had to go and look up waterspout as I’ve never seen one.

The National Ocean Service explains a  waterspoutWater SpoutTo give you a better perspective, you can see their house in the picture (this is the one Oyster Radio already showed) You might remember the Century Plant from last year.

Bee in J’s garden on a Hot Summer Day

Dabbling in nature photography today

The downpour of rain came later.

Muggy and hot, hot, hot.

This bee was enjoying the flower. Shot with a 24/70 lens/wish I’d a macro for an even better close-up.

‘Twas The Night Before Picklesburgh – 35 Foot Pickle Balloon Tethered to Ninth Street Bridge- Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh is Picklesburgh this weekend. It starts Friday.

There will be a pickle juice drinking contest. Mmmmm.  Maybe I can get down there and photograph some of the festivities. Heinz Pickles production

Here’s a Pittsburgh Post Gazette article about it for more info.  Or a video from CBS with a ton more photos of the pickle balloon.

When I saw Picklesburgh listed in the news on the computer tonight, I got in the car (about 10:15) drove downtown and put the flashers on.  You couldn’t go on the main part of the bridge itself said the nice security man but I walked along the walkway and took a few photos of the giant pickle balloon at night.  I just thought there it would be some “fresh content” and a new topic. I hear there will be pickle cookies to eat.  All kinds of pickly treat to sample.

We can discuss dill, spears, sandwich slices, chips, bread and butter or sweet pickles another time.

I like pickle relish in tuna salad. Dill spears.

One summer I made pickles when I visited my brother David in Okanogan WA and they were delicious.

My grandmother’s handwritten pickle recipe is in a wooden box in my kitchen.

Two days of Picklesburgh and celebrating all things pickled.

Pittsburgh Plunge and The Slide at the Pool

Saw these two photos on the desktop and they seemed similar in shape

But here’s what happens with the Pittsburgh Plunge at Kennywood

WordPress forgot to send a note- after 6 years of blogging. How could they?

I thought it was automatic.  An electronic note to me.  Six years is a long time.  Today’s post is #2132.

Six years ago today I started blogging at wordpress.  I thought at least they would send a notice… Congrats on Six Years of Blogging. I’ve seen badges on other blogs for years of blogging accomplished.

I told my granddaughter it was my blogaversary and she said, “What’s that?”

No drum roll, no brass band, waaaaah waaaah waaaaaah, whine, whine, whine,

No one really cares, just me.

This was the first photo I blogged on July 14, 2009.

Murphy passed away and Michael is going to be ten in August.

Potato Patch Fries Production

There are two lines to take the $ nowadays so no one handles cash and food.

Your order comes up on a screen. I’ve no idea how they keep it straight.

A team of teenagers orchestrate the production and it’s efficient.

Fast furious pace behind the counter.  Everyone knows their part.

Fries spilling over the paper tray’s edge.

A ladle of “cheese” and bacon bits for some.

We had seasoned salt and tiny cup cheese on the side. The word tiny is a poor one for this post, a small plastic cup. Think stadium nachos. Add ketchup.  Napkins.

 We shared.

I asked a couple if I could photograph their bacon and cheese fries.

Swing Like a Pendulum Over the Tree Tops

And at a high speed!

Yes, it’s a thrill ride. Watching it from the ground with a 70-200 lens, you’re mesmerized.

You wonder why a person would want to get buckled in and subject oneself to the sensation.

Actually they look serene.

I would be screaming,  I know.

Here’s a youtube post of the ride in action so you can get a better idea.
