NOT an Abandoned Couch

A slow week for furniture on the curb. Have I stayed home more? Less driving around?

Perhaps I should start a spin-off blog for my abandoned furniture finds over the years.

Lawrenceville Dressers

I looked it up as suddenly the word dresser seemed a funny name for these wooden items. What Is a Chest of Drawers? A chest of drawers is distinctly different from a dresser in regard to shape and form. Instead of being long, short, and deep, they are tall and narrow. While dressers feature multiple columns of drawers, a chest of drawers has just one single row, stacked vertically.

I went to the Carnegie Library Lawrenceville Branch today to return a book and get some knitting patterns printed. Everyone is always so helpful. They were gracious to give me this bright red bag to hold all my papers and books.

I do love my library.

Feeling Devilish? Guest Blog

Is it Devilled or Deviled?  Who cares?

Either way you spell it, these hard boiled, then split-in-half eggs with the yolks scooped out and mashed, are frequently devoured with enthusiasm at a party. The 1800’s Housewife spells with two Ls and has a source for this question from this link at the Grammarist     It depends upon where you live!

my friend Joanne’s deviled/devilled egg dish photos are below.

Joanne writes-
Do I have enough devilled egg dishes?
I do love them and have trouble passing by a devilled egg dish at a yard sale or antique shop…..I’ve collected these over the years and I do indeed make devilled eggs often.  My friends ask/expect me to bring them any time a potluck event is planned.  My favorite recipe comes from my original Betty Crocker (red plaid cover) cookbook from 1968 ….. the flavor comes from adding mustard and vinegar to the mayo.  And I sprinkle mine with dill weed.  My friend adds curry powder to hers.  Of all of my dishes, I use the long white ceramic one the most.
Here is a link to a one minute video Classic Betty Crocker but I see they omitted the vinegar

Wordless Wednesday

All the leaves are brown

and the sky is gray

But it’s not a winter’s day

The Buckeye Tree drops brown leaves early in the season.

It was technically still summer when I photographed the backyard in Ohio.

‘tis the Season

Pumpkin Season

Dessert was Pumpkin Cheesecake which Steve and I shared. I thought the caramel sauce drizzle too sweet but Steve didn’t mind.
