Bank Parking Lot Shot -Guest Blog

Blog follower and friend Andrew Wagner and I took some photography classes at Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild years ago. Gigapan is the one I remember the best. He has a terrific sense of humor. Andy is the guy who told me I’ve that my “blog was like a Kodak Carousel slide show- you never know what’s going to be next.” I felt complimented by his statement.

He sent me this photo from the bank parking lot. “freeze my account” he wrote.

Then he turned it and asked, “Does it look better if it looks like they are crawling uphill?”

I like both views.

Nature.

Thursday morning I was on my way to get a haircut. I pulled over and stopped on the hill to take this photo.

A Turkey Vulture having a winter lunch of road kill, either rabbit or squirrel.

Today’s topic a little grim perhaps but the bird is dependent on something to scavenge and can’t go to the market to buy lunch.

Nine Years Ago- Orange Olive Oil Cake

Did some research for a Portuguese dessert and this cake came up in two places. Recipe for Orange-Olive Oil Cake. “This Portuguese orange olive oil cakehas an unforgettably tender crumb and a citrus smack thanks to fruity olive oil, winter navel oranges, and orange zest.”

I went across the Allegheny River to Labriola’s and bought a new Zoe Olive Oil as recommended in the recipe. Fresh eggs. And five navel oranges were five dollars at Whole You-Know-What.

Zested three oranges and squeezed four to get 1 1/2 c of juice.

Used a tube pan as I did not have a light colored bundt pan. Baked it 1 1/4 hours.

Make it at least a day before serving. I did.

Will let you know what the verdict is after Friday night dessert. I usually don’t make a new recipe to share, untested.

January 8 2025- it was absolutely delicious I need to bake it again

I put it on a glass cake stand after it cooled.

Level Three Snow Emergency in Athens

Athens in Southeast Ohio.

“All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be on the roadway unless it is essential to travel or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.”

Guest blogger Anna sent these photos today and she and her housemates walked to get a frozen pizza at the Dollar General as only emergency vehicles were to be on the roads.

I found the little slip of paper with this recipe in some of my mother’s recipes.

I don’t recall my mother ever making any potato salad

Do you have recipes on little slips of paper? Sometimes they are stuffed in a cookbook.

I don’t know who Elmer Newkirk is but he must have typed out his recipe snd shared it. Have you ever heard of putting a peeled apple in potato salad?

These Dryer Balls Make Laundry Fun

There are three new woolly sheep dryer balls who’ve joined the three baby seals. One baby seal didn’t get upstairs to be photographed.

You throw the wool balls into the dryer with the damp clothes (in place of a dryer sheet)

“Wool dryer balls are reusable, biodegradable, non-toxic, and fragrance-free.” And they help the clothes dry 25% faster according to reports of the benefits of purchasing them.

I enjoy using them. A bright spot during chores and if you need some these are from FriendSheep
