Follow Me to Forbes Field Vintage Sign

Saw this sign on the back wall behind the Cobra Kings band at Excuses on the South Side Friday night. The kitchen door is on the right, the spice rack a blur.

Some of you may know how Baseball in October is a big thrill in the city of Pittsburgh right now, after twenty one years without a winning season we have one now…. and then some!

Another game against the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow afternoon. On our home field of PNC Park. Everyone is hoisting the Jolly Roger flags and cheering them on.

Forbes Field Forever is a website which maintains the memories although the actual field is no longer there, but the brick wall with the painted distance numerals is still in Oakland, covered with some ivy. Home plate in a U of Pitt building floor, covered with plexiglass for all to see. GO BUCS!

Baseball in October

Steve and I went down to PNC Park and the Sixth Street Bridge and walked along the Allegheny River.

We could hear the roar of the crowd- 6-2 over Cincinnati tonight.  It was an energetic and enthusiastic crowd.  First time there’s been baseball in October for the Pittsburgh Pirates in TWENTY ONE YEARS!

Fireworks are shot off for every home run so it was a loud night.

Oh, and we saw the Forty Foot Duck, moored at the Point by the fountain.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Saturated

This image is saturated all right.  Not sure if it looks rich or garish.

Here are the groundskeepers hosing the infield before the Pirates game at PNC Park last week.

Pre-game hosing is just one of the times the groundskeepers water it down. (see article like below)

As far as the saturated goes with th color, I beefed up the green a tad.  I don’t mess with saturation much.

I liked the multiple meaning of saturation for the challenge

Raising the Jolly Roger in the Burgh

Baseball in October’s called BUCTOBER around here. Go Bucs!

For the first time in a couple of decades, the whole city of Pittsburgh is excited about baseball.

(Now Sue, you were there all the twenty one years of losing seasons too so this must be especially sweet)

PNC Park- Pirates Beat St.Louis

When you take a photograph, you realize the limitations of the medium. One tries to capture the scene for the viewer to share later.
The photographer chooses what to focus on and catch- and it’s exasperating at times.
The frozen frame can’t recreate the moment, the atmosphere and surroundings entirely.
The sound of boat horns, traffic rushing by below, a blimp circling overhead, the thousands of fans roar or collective sigh….

Weekly Photo Challenge: One Shot, Two Ways

Vertical horizontal vertical horizontal     Sorry I could not get them into two columns to compare the two shots.

One shot, two ways.  I didn’t realize I do this challenge without thinking about doing it.  The WordPress post said shoot a vertical and a horizontal.  And although I  did not go out and reshoot for this challenge, here is what I discovered on Tuesday night I shot vertical, horizontal naturally without too much thought. Shoot, turn the camera, shoot, turn the camera,  Shoot and turn the camera –  shoot.  I was surprised how many times I did this exact thing without knowing about the challenge that came out today.

Baseball Fan Dressed as a Pirate has Attended 39 Games This Season-

…and that was Tuesday night, August 6th. There’ve been two more games since then in the series (both wins) and I bet she went to them, too.

As we were  leaving the game and I saw her, I asked if it would be okay to photograph her in her Pirates costume.

Tattooed Mannequin – Back in the ‘Burgh

Summer vacation’s a wonderful break from the school year.

Have to report back to school two weeks from tomorrow 8-20.

It’s difficult to see summer come to a close.  Even the weather seems tinged with fall.

Trying to keep the blog in “real time” and needed a Pittsburgh photo to post tonight.  I shot this when Steve and I went on the Ducky Tour.

The Pirates are playing the Marlins at PNC Park tomorrow night. And tickets are in hot demand these days!  GO BUCS!

This  mannequin sports PIRATES ink.  I’d never seen a tattooed mannequin before this one.   Shot through the store window at Station Square.
