I’m in Pittsburgh but Photographed by Friend in Australia, Guest Blog

Friday night McWalker Yarns hosts a Sip and Stitch Zoom meeting. A great way to connect during the Pandemic. While we were knitting and chatting, we started talking Halloween. One of our participants lives in Australia, so our evening meeting is her morning coffee time. Gayle was saying it will already be Halloween for her at next Friday Night’s Sip and Stitch Zoom meeting. I thought, wait I will don the mask that is on my dining room table. I sewed this costume for my son Mark in the early 80s.

So here I am sporting the ET mask and Gayle in Australia photographed me and sent it. With her gracious permission I am sharing her photo of me.

I “met” Gayle through the Woolswap program she runs, as well as many other knitters around the world, sharing fiber, creativity and inspiration with one another.

It’s me. You can see my knitted shawl peeking.

D’Anjou Pear Galette

Dessert at the Cafe at the Frick. See those slices of fresh pear? The flaky crust galette was warmed and topped with a scoop of ricotta gelato. That’s a golden drizzle of bourbon caramel and a shake of cinnamon you see finishing the presentation. Oh and a pansy with a few blueberries for garnish. Mmmmmm.It was a perfect fall dessert.

Before lunch, my friend V and I had seen the exhibit of Katherine Hepburn Dressed for Stage and Screen showing her Costume and Fashion Collection. On view until January 12th. This winter we’ll watch a few of the old movies featured to see her wearing the costumes on screen. Please Don’t Touch the Magnificent Costumes (All Made of Paper)

The title of today’s post comes from a conversation I had with one of the guards in the gallery. He has seen two women lie down on the museum floor to look up the dresses ( he thought they had fainted), two men blow on the hanging costumes to get them to move (saliva included) and a 5 or 6 year old ran into the Queen Elizabeth gown the other day. Today I saw a woman reach to touch the gossamer lace on a collar. It’s hard to fathom that the gorgeous costumes/sculptures are made entirely of paper but they are.

Today at the Frick Art Museum we viewed the exhibition of Isabelle de Borchgrave : Fashioning Art from Paper

My sister Mary reads about the Isabelle de Borchgrave paper sculpture commissioned by the Frick after the Peter Paul Rubens’ *Portrait* of Princess of Condé, Charlotte-Marguerite de Montmorency (1594-1650)

You can touch the paper on this table in the rotunda.

Life-Size Chipmunk Sighting on Herron Hill

Friday afternoon I drove a colleague to the Strip District to pick up her car. It was raining. She’d gotten new tires.

At the red light, down Herron Hill, I saw a Life Size Chipmunk making her way to the intersection to cross Liberty Avenue. (The same spot I saw the groundhog scurrying under the cars.)

Oh that’s right, it was Halloween.
