Moonrise Over Bocce Court in Bloomfield

As I an writing this post I think that it is almost two years that I started the blog.  And when I checked the stats I see that the first post was 7-14-09.   Two years and a day. Happy Blog–aversary. Thanks to all the readers who have followed my blog, written comments on the blog, written nice emails to me or told me about which photo they enjoyed seeing. And to the friends of friends who have shared the posts and photographs, whom I have met only online, I appreciate your good feedback, too.  SO here is the today’s post-

Stephanie cuts my hair. She asked me how the photography was going.  I told her how I photograph and post a photo of the day on the blog. (Today is the #658 post.) She told Jack, her husband and he looked at my photos online and invited me down Thursday night when he  plays Bocce. Here is his website.

It was a perfect summer evening and the men were gracious, allowing me to photograph the games.  Tried to be unobtrusive and hung there for over two hours. One gentleman is 97 years old!  I sat on a bench at the end of the court for a time, shooting intermittently. A little conversation here and there.    And there was the moonrise over the bocce court.

Although I was invited to the mid-season party at the Pleasure Bar on Tuesday, I already have plans with the grandchildren….but I got to hear the menu!  Mmmmmm.  I am really missing out.   Fortunately there is an end of season party in the fall!.

Thanks Jack and to the Bocce League, playing under the cars passing over the Bloomfield Bridge on a summer night.

Grand Ville Convertible- Classic Car

Parked on a side street as I rounded the corner to meet Cj at Lot 17 on Liberty last Friday evening. Gleaming black convertible.   A Classic Car license plate. By Pontiac.

You see a lot of scenes like this in Pittsburgh and they feel like you are on a movie set.  The interior was immaculate.  Must get a lot of attention when driving around the city.  Anyone know the year?

Some objects speak to us.
Others don’t.
See how it strikes you.
If you know the year,
will you let me know?

Bloomfield Fan’s Display Sums it Up

I was driving back into the city from Columbus OH, early Monday morning.  Trying to get to work. BUT I had to pull over on Liberty Avenue to capture this fan’s feelings. It was a gray day. Mostly rainy with a chance of the blues.

Driving back to the Burgh I
forgot about traffic at the tunnel.
Everyone trying to get to work.
Including me.
We’re all tired. But this sign tells the story
of our city.

Standing Right in Front of Me

Last night we heard this song in the Rain show and today I was humming it and a few other Beatles tunes, all mixed up.  A couple of friends are going to see Rain this week and then Sally wrote that she saw the Beatles THREE times as a teenager in the ’60s. Just ran through my thoughts throughout the day.  Steve was starting to walk down the hill in the snow to catch a bus.  I drove him to work in the all wheel drive and as we turned onto Friendship Avenue I saw this statue of Mary in front of the convent in Bloomfield. Shrouded in snow.  Since school had just been closed for the day, I got out and photographed the figure in the snow thinking of the words to this song- since she was standing right in front of me…….

from Let it Be by John Lennon and Paul McCartney

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

Waiting While Someone Parallel Parks on Pearl Street

On the way home from school this late afternoon, crossed the Bloomfield Bridge, down Howley Street past the Shur Save and  turned to the right instead left.  Too much traffic by the new Children’s Hospital.  On Pearl Street the car ahead of me was stopped.  It took a long time for the parallel parker to get into the space.  Thought the row of houses on the right had some good repetition and rhythm.

Winter in the city.

Urban Bird Housing

Driving from one school to another I vary my route. Not specifically looking for photos, just trying to find a good way to go with the least traffic flow. Colorful bird houses dangling from the branches of a city tree made me smile.

Seeing these colorful houses and thinking of the person who put them in this tree, cheered me!

Friendship Park Middle of the Day

Driving from one school to the other in the middle of the day, stopped at the red light.  You just never know what you will encounter.  Near West Penn Hospital.

Wonder what the dog is thinking?

Children’s Hospital Pittsburgh PA- Old and New

When Steve drove me over to the Southside  Wed night, I saw the old Children’s Hospital being demolished. On the outside of that exit door high in the sky, there’s a pink paper still hanging on the right wall.  My daughter-in-law, Erika, was a nurse in the NICU at the old Children’s. Thursday on the way home from work I saw the new Children’s Hopsital as I sat in traffic on the Bloomfield Bridge. A helicopter about to land on the roof…
