Do you an opinion on painted brick?

There are many brick homes in Pittsburgh. One house up the street has eleven different colors of brick but the brick is not painted- it’s the color of the brick.

Difficult to miss a structure of painted brick when it’s as bright as this color. I was walking after I dropped off Steve’s car.

Seems there is more negative than positive about painting brick. But you can stain it, lime wash it or use some special masonry paint.

One of the negatives-

“Trapped Moisture: …..brick is porous. This means it has tiny holes that allow moisture vapor to pass through in both directions, helping to regulate humidity and prevent moisture from being trapped within the walls. This is why brick is often referred to as a material that “breathes.” Painting it creates a barrier, trapping moisture inside the brick, which can lead to: ___________________From an Article the Dos and Don’ts of Painted Brick

Pool Noodle Carrots and Bricks as Books Yard Art

A true work of yard art.

We even met the artist Karen as she was outside hauling bags of mulch. Laura, Mary and I were walking to meet Charlie at dismissal time. Laura said “I have a surprise for you.” And she walked me to this home of yard art extraordinaire.

Karen explained how she made the carrots with pool noodles and showed us a photo of her winter snowmen made with the same methods.

How many textures on Mend Way?

Mend Way. Bloomfield. Right near West Penn Hospital. The one block alley/road between Millvale Avenue and Gross Street. I looked down while walking to my car.

All these textures!

Gravel, bricks, sand, dirt, concrete, dried leaves, my leather boot, cigarette butts and the shadows of the chain link fence.

There are many “Ways” in our city. I looked at the list of Street Names and wondered what determined the definition. Merriam-Webster says “Definition of way. 1 a : a thoroughfare for travel or transportation from place to place. b : an opening for passage.”

How Does It Feel?

I’m back in the Burgh but here are a few more Southern images for the Textures Photo Challenge
