Earth, Air, Water and Fire

Erica V. at WordPress writes about the photo challenge she created- elemental

“For this week’s challenge, explore the classical elements of earth, air, water, and fire. How do you capture something invisible like air, or the movement of water?”

Atop the Stump at the Farm etc.

And a few other pics for the second ATOP gallery.

I was talking with my friend today and said I don’t think I use the word atop in my everyday vocabulary. But I seem to have a few photos from the archives that illustrate it.

Wooley Mama’s on Apple Street- Omak, Washington

Wooley Mama’s

Meet Laura Hayner. And Shadow. What a sweet doggie. She follows Laura everywhere.

She is spinning fleece of some local sheep.

Here’s a skein of some of her handspun yarn from a spinning workshop. It was a grab bag of different fibers and has a really cool and varied look to it.

Spoiler Alert for Christmas Gifts- Made in the U.S.A.- World’s Warmest Socks for Winter. I’m sure she’d be happy to send you some. They are thick and cushy. Perfect in a big boot or to wear around a drafty house.

Thanks Laura for welcoming us to your lovely shop. Love the name of your store.

Thanks for showing us your logo. My sister likes the buttons she bought, too.

I enjoyed seeing your spinning and will enjoy knitting all the yarn I bought and shipped to myself. It’s great you get your fiber from local ranches and farms- 4R Ranch in Tonasket and Good Farms in Okanogan for two.

Lala and Her Lap Dog

Happy Birthday Laura.

(Didn’t Erika coin your nickname, Lala? )

What is the definition of a “lap dog”?

A dog who is able to sit on your lap.

Penny is a lap dog.

You at the farm with husband James and his sister Kim and Penny, and niece Anna.

Everyone loves Aunt Lala.

Corny. But fun. A jump at the farm. Hope your birthday feels just like this.

I am so excited you are here in the Burgh. Good timing on the wedding weekend so you get to come to Pittsburgh.

I baked an Angel Food cake. Not sure why I did it in this Angel Food loaf pan this time. Looks a tad cracked on top.

You always called it CLOUD CAKE.

We’ll add some fresh berries and ice cream.

Without the shades this time. Thanks. love you lots.

Happy Birthday dear daughter. Love. Ma

Ireland Army Hospital.

The family has gathered in to Erika’s parents to celebrate Mark’s birthday. You were a bicentennial baby and my father’s mother knit you a red ,white and blue afghan.

This afternoon we went to the farm next door to see how the pigs are growing. We were playing with the runt named P.P. and watching her root in the mud. No truffles found, though.

Mark and his sons Michael and Jack were walking back home. Of course I had the fixed lens (50mm) on the camera. I almost missed them though. Erika asked me “Did you get it?” We saw the three of them at the top of the hill at the same time. The next frame they’re in total sunlight and it isn’t as strong.

Happy Birthday Mark. I searched the card racks for the right words but the card writers this year didn’t capture what I wanted to say.

When I see you grown up, loving your own beautiful family, my heart is full.

I love you. Ma

See proud future Dad. His “wife” is sitting on 17 eggs. (Not sure if Turkeys mate for life like other species you hear about. hmmmm)
