Sourdough Banana Bread

My granddaughter Maura baked Sourdough Banana Bread last week and sent a picture. I’d given her some sourdough starter a couple of weeks ago.

I felt inspired to try and bake it myself. Needed just 3 ripe bananas.

These little glass muffin cups held the leftover batter from the larger loaf.

Here’s the recipe I used. It was really good

Mine didn’t get that deep golden color

Slices of Rye Eyes

I bought a loaf of marble rye at the Bryant Street market this morning. When I went to make a sandwich with a couple of slices, they were staring at me.

A Two Loaf Morning

I’m trying to get into the Sourdough baking rhythm/routine.

These loaves were recipes from a cookbook I took out of the library

A Spoonful for Luck in the New Year

These already prepared Black Eyed Peas (no soaking) were an impulse buy. I didn’t want to do major cooking. When I lived in Georgia decades ago I remember going to the General’s Quarters on New Year’s Day and that’s where I learned about the traditional dish. They weren’t a part of my growing up. Eating a spoonful insures good luck for the new year.

Our Dinner Guest Chef Sam

Chef Sam cut up the cucumbers without looking (on my Pennsylvania cutting board thanks Grandson Jack) to add to the salad.

Pre-Cut Parchment Paper

What a great invention.

My friend Linda recommended purchasing these pre-but rounds when we were in King Arthur Flour in Vermont last month. I’m so glad I did. I used them for 3 – 8 inch layers for two family birthdays in November.

And this cake was a Brown Mountain Cake from Farm Journal. I added vanilla buttercream frosting. The buttermilk is a key ingredient!

Paprika

My daughter-in-law brought this special paprika with her. I usually don’t use a lot of paprika except to sprinkle on Deviled Eggs. This is the best she told me.

What started out as vegetable Stroganoff became a vegetable stew and it was delicious.

A Little Cinnamon

Baked half apples. Half baked apples?

A dot of butter in the hollowed out core.

A sprinkle of cinnamon

I put a little bit of water in the bottom of the pan

Different apples bake differently depending on moisture content and firmness.

But they are all delicious

Not a Peck or Pickled

How do you like peppers?

Another gift from the neighbor who had leftovers from a party.

I sautéed them in a bit of olive oil.

Stored them in a glass jar in the fridge overnight.

The next day I sautéed some baby Bella mushrooms and thin chicken breasts which I cut into strips. Got out the cast iron skillet for the flour tortillas! Delicious.
