As I got into my car at The Lakes parking lot, I saw this card by my foot.
The late afternoon light made the pavement and painted line come alive. The business card appeared to float.
Do I put the knitting down and begin to quilt?

Thought it was a great idea.
Drivers today are so impatient.
It’s good to know that someone in front of you is learning how to drive.
A woman came out of the store and said.”Why is she taking a picture of my car?”
I told her I wanted to remember her good idea for when my grandchildren are learning to drive. I assured her I didn’t take her license plate number.
She said the sign on the car really works. We had a nice conversation about it.
You see motivational posters with a single word illustrating a character trait underneath a corresponding photo. The power of nature to grow in an inhospitable environment is always amazing to me.

Woke up this morning to the first snow.
After school there wasn’t much left in the school parking lot, except for these few leaves.

Just before I got into my car, the sun was sinking in the west at a fast pace.
Sunday afternoon I drove across the Monongahela River to the Waterfront at Homestead, PA and did a little grocery shopping.
When I wheeled my cart to load the car, I saw this little list on the pavement of the parking lot.
I used to photograph found lists, little wrinkled slips of paper, write poems about them. Some lists abandoned in a cart- seemed like poems when I found them.
I’d think about the people who wrote them. Sometimes they’d written the oddest mix of items.
I have a friend who keeps a magnetized shopping list pad on her fridge and when she uses something up, she writes it down immediately so she can replenish the larder. I’m not that disciplined. I’ve written a list and then left it at home but it can help when trying to remember what I’d written down.
There are even tablets of preprinted lists and you just check the boxes of what you need to get at the store. That’s not my style of list, either. When I entertain I’m more likely to write a menu AND a shopping list. Cross things off as I put them in the cart.

When I find these things I know there’s a story behind the scene. The light seemed perfect, causing the edges to reflect the setting sun. Anna, 7, said, “I wonder whose shoe is that.”
