Silent Sunday

Illinois Snow in the 1920’s

My grandmother Charlotte in the hat and coat standing in front of the snow and my grandfather Judd with the shovel. Durand, Illinois. We had five inches yesterday in Pittsburgh.

Nothing like this!

Wordless Wednesday

Well when it happened as I went to shovel I was not wordless.

Well, when it came apart as I shoveled, I was not wordless.

May Snow and Blossoms Guest Blog

May Blossoms and Snow video captured in Ohio by Terry Sherry. She texted this afternoon and I asked if I could post her capture of the snow falling.

It’s quick but she documented the unexpected May weather. Thanks Terry. I heard it snowed in places in Pittsburgh too but I didn’t see it. She told me there was a duck in the pond but we can’t see him. Brrrrrrrrrrrr.

Not Spring Yet

Yesterday I was remarking how I’d heard birds and there was sunlight on my living room floor  and it was staying light so much longer.

There’s a muddy feel in the air, impending Spring. A scent. A feel. Signs of the changing season – oops. The supposed rain shower today wasn’t rain at all but blustery icy sleety snow, blowing around wildly and the thermometer said NO WAY but yes, it was wintry white and howling and my optimism the winter coming to a close, vanished. Just like that!

Spring’s coming though   It always does. I know it. You wish it would hurry.

Cloudy cold with blowing sleety snow.

Highland Park Snowman

Saturday afternoon on the way home, I saw this big snowman at the park entrance.

We Might Need These This Week

If the weather predictions are accurate, we’ll be needing our winter boots this coming week.  Travel with Intent blog sponsors Six Word Saturday

Troll Crossing in Norway One Year Ago

Trollstigen (Troll’s Road) in Norway.  If you click the link you can see pictures of the winding Troll’s Road.

One year ago I was on the Arne and Carlos‘ Knitting Cruise going up the coast of Norway on MS Finnmarken.   Thanks to Pam from Massachusetts, my knitting colleague and ship roommate for sending this pic today. Yes that was a wonderful trip of a lifetime and there are many great memories.

I was so happy to receive an email today with this photo of myself that Pam took by the  Troll Crossing sign.  I was able to go and find the one I took of her, too.

Our tour bus was to drive up the winding roads but due to bad weather, the Troll Road was closed. (After looking at the photos of the road I think I am a bit relieved it was closed)

Thanks again for the fun memory, Pam.  I’m glad you follow the blog. Hope you like this post!

Blossoms?

Looks like blossoms. Doesn’t it?

Noon, Monday March 18th Columbus Ohio – after last night’s snowstorm.

Henry the Airedale Remained Unperturbed

Henry the Airedale sat serenely while Maura jumped around outside for a few minutes. She shed her coat. I had on wool socks, wool sweater, down vest and wool hat. I could hear my mother in my head, warning me about pneumonia weather or catching a chill. Maura thought that the sun being out and her running around made it an early Spring. She kept her hat on her head.   Then put her coat back on. Brrrr. My hands were cold when I got inside.

Henry just sat there, taking in the fresh cool air.  No “sit” or “stay”command given.

And no, I did NOT knit her hat.
