Friday Night on the North Side

Friday after he got home from work, Steve asked me to go to the Andy Warhol Museum, use our museum memberships. We always say we are going to go to one of the museums every month and although I went with the grandkids to the Carnegie Science Center twice recently and the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, he and I have not kept up with our plan. Four museums in one membership is a great deal but you have to utilize it! Tonight we were remembering going the night the Warhol opened in 1994. We had a beer and sat on the couch, a nice man offered to take our photo as he saw me struggle with a selfie attempt. We took a walk to the river after our visit.

John Kane/Robert Qualters Paintings at Carlow University Art Gallery

KANE/QUALTERS: MY PITTSBURGH Sept 5- November 10. 2017

Thursday evening Steve and I drove to Carlow University Art Gallery to see this exhibit. My friend R told me about the reception when I had breakfast with her earlier in the day. Steve and I met the artist Robert Qualters and saw his work, alongside the paintings of John Kane (1860-1934)

Mr. Qualters has donated two paintings to the University For John Kane and Big Self-Portrait. (He is on the left below)

The painting behind Mr.Qualters and gallery guest not part of the exhibition but they were chatting just outside the gallery

There were four John Kane paintings, one Mount Mercy was donated in 2001 to the University by Mrs. Elsie Hillman. The other three were on loan from the Hillman Foundation Art Collection

Anda Chance- Colored Pencil Artist

Meet Anda Chance. Colored Pencil and Watercolor Artist.

My friend J and I met her at the Artisan’s Guild Gallery in downtown Gainesville, Florida.

“She has earned signature status from the Colored Pencil Society of America in colored pencil and mixed media art.”Here she is with a piece she was bringing into the gallery on Sunday.

This airplane, Warbird, had just been a show near Washington D.C.

Warbird

This Navy plane was used by the US Navy from WWII to the end of the Vietnam War to train pilots and ground crews. When my husband join the Navy in 1970, he was in the last class of ground crew mechanics taught to maintain this engine. Today, she resides in Douglas Georgia with other retired War Birds.

This drawing was a challenge and it really pushed my skills.

“Warbird” has been accepted for the 2017 Colored Pencil International Show in Bethesda Md.

I bought notecards titled Night Riders, with these amazing bicycles on them.

Here she is with her award winning sculpture, Burgh, at Pittsburgh Society of Artists Da Burgh Show (Images of Pittsburgh) at Framehouse and Jask Gallery in Lawrenceville through June 30th.

Overgrown in Pittsburgh Exhibit, a Friendship Bagel and an Artistic Tree Grate on Penn Avenue in Garfield

A sneak peek from the catalog of the show. Tonight I just had the old iPhone with me and didn’t capture the artwork. Took a few shots of the artist and a few family members- I didn’t ask if it would be okay to blog them so if you are in the Pittsburgh Area you have until July 15th to experience these stunning paintings in person.

Lots happening on Penn Avenue as it was a first Friday and it’s called Unblurred

-art galleries open and the street abuzz with activity.

We were walking to the Irma Freeman Center for the Imagination where my friend Joan Brindle was having an art opening along with 3 other artists Roshida Abira Ali, Jim Brindle and Irma Freeman. The show will be open until July 15th

Friendship Bagel complete with an Ode to a Spring Meadow Poem on the sidewalk in Garfield on Penn Avenue.

And when we crossed the street to ensure our friend V got in her car, I captured one of the new Artistic Tree Grates that have been installed recently as part of the Penn Avenue Reconstruction
