St.Martin’s Day

St.Martin’s Day was celebrated Thursday evening at the school.

First the story of St.Martin was told to the families inside the school. Then the families went outside to see the circle of all the school children. The children carried lanterns they’d made and gathered in a circle to sing. There were candles along the stairs and paths to light the darkness.

“Martin of Tours (died 397) was a Roman soldier who was baptized as an adult and became a bishop in Gaul. He is best known for the tale whereby he cut his cloak in half with his sword, to give half to a beggar who was dressed in only rags in the depth of winter. That night Martin had a vision of Jesus Christ wearing the half-cloak.”

Five years ago I attended another St.Martins Day in Berlin. Here’s that post

Halloween Greetings

Wishing you an “ enchanted night” -just like the greeting card a friend sent to me.

My DIL made the little ceramic pumpkin in elementary school and I retrieved it from the trash years ago. And the metal Chicken Feeder turned into a Jack o’ lantern was a souvenir from Acton Massachusetts this past August when visiting friends.

Boo!

Evening Stroll in Reykjavik

Back home in Pittsburgh now but here’s an evening stroll from my hotel to the old city center in Reykjavik last week. Laugavegur was the street. It got dark on my way back. You can see the sea at the end of a couple of the streets. Open candles in windows were inviting

Don’t Mess with a Knitter” tattoo on upper arm- the canvas of the old woman in the window of the closed Art Gallery so no chance to give the artist credit.

Angel Lava Lamp

No kidding.

Plugged in and sitting on top of the piano at Mark and Erika’s house.

And I found myself watching it for a long time, the sparkles rising and falling, catching the light.  Now photographing it was a challenge.

Too much light and the sparkles disappeared.

I was fascinated by the glittery colors inside floating and glimmering. This is the best I could capture it.  I thought it was a lot of fun.
