Sock Drawer
This is a photo of my daughter Laura’s sock drawer. She texted it to me. She knew it would make me happy.
Why?
Because I knit them for her. You’ve seen the Good and Plenty and Wonder Woman featured on the blog and the yarn her husband James bought on a business trip in Seattle. The colors of flowers at Pike Market. I see some Alaskan yarn too.
When she told me she loved wearing the hand knit socks, I felt motivated to knit more.

Abiding Love Always
Dear Daughter Laura,
Tonight on your birthday eve, I dusted off the counted cross stitch birth sampler and remembered the gift of your arrival in Germany.
A girl!
Maura says you’re not just an amazing aunt, but you’re an amazing mother. I agree.
Happy Birthday to you.
Love,
Ma (and Maura, who is visiting)
Old Stuffed Animals
Maura has two of her parents old stuffed animals. The sock monkey, in need of repair, I sewed for Mark in 1976 and the brown teddy bear is Erika’s childhood bear. It’s hard to throw away things with a face. They are definitely loved and cared for by their daughter now.
Do you have any old stuffed animals in your house?

Tastes Better When Someone Else Prepares and Serves
Classic winter lunch made and served by my daughter Laura. Hit the spot on a gray chilly day.
Cheddar and Monterey Jack on wheat was the grilled cheese. She used the stovetop cast iron grill I gave her for Christmas. (Which covers two burners)
Oh, they were so much younger then (me, too)

Happy Birthday Lala
Now you’re mom to a one year old!
Happy Happy Birthday to you Laura.
You make life nice.
Love,
Your Mom
P.S. Refer to last year’s birthday post to see how time flies.
(It’s something old people say to younger people and then suddenly you experience it.)
