Unexpected. Driving home after dinner out. Down a back alley parallel to on Butler Street.
As Steve said- you just never know when you’ll find a Van Gogh.

You can still see the “Scenes of Sharpsburg” between 5-8 PM through February 28th at Roots of Faith, 800 Main St., Sharpsburg.
Steve and I went to the reception Saturday night.

Meet Janice Schuler. Artist. Today there was an Artist’s Studio Tour in Lawrenceville. Her painting studio is in the basement of this repurposed church and was number one on the tour. I’d met Janice last night at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and she invited me to visit her studio during the Studio Tour. There was wine and beer, bottles of water and cheese and crackers and a tray of sweets, too. Other artists studios were open as well but I sat in a comfortable chair in Janice’s studio and watched people come and go as we talked.

Maura loves arts and crafts, swimming, piano lessons, dancing, going to the Children’s Museum in Pittsburgh and taking good care of her dolls. She brings a lot of energy and spirit to the party, that is for sure! Have a wonderful birthday, Maura.

Wildflower Paintings on Beehives
My artist friend Joan paints Pennsylvania Wildflowers on her beehives. I learned there are different parts to a beehive. (see article link below)
Her bees were busy and didn’t want to be disturbed but Joan assured me she keeps an EpiPen in case I was allergic.
Trying to photograph the hive without agitating the bees as the hive is tucked in between lush rhododendron.
One thing for sure, the bees will know which hive belongs to them and where to return

As you can see, Joan has painted lots of flowers onto things in her home, too.

Gallerie Chiz in Shadyside, Art Show Opening
Artists Susan Middleman and Joan Brindle. Classmates reunited at Susan’s Opening Reception Friday night.
Class of 1965- they met as freshmen at Carnegie Tech
(now Carnegie Mellon University) Pittsburgh PA
Joan and I were art teachers in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and then Joan was my Art Supervisor. We became friends. That’s how I got invited to her friend Susan’s Art Opening Reception at Gallerie Chiz. The large oil paintings on paper are Susan’s art work.
I met the artist Susan Middleman through Joan.
Hosted by Gallerie Chiz owner/director Ellen Chisdes Neuberg who provided the space for connections. I knew she was the gallery owner as she came to introduce herself. I was inquiring if her plate held a sweet or a savory.
I thought it might be a chocolate or a meatball but it was a baby bella mushroom.
Ellen sported a cool purple outfit, unique art jewelry and turquoise glasses. Plus she wasn’t carrying a purse. Ellen and one other person would have been selected “best dressed” if I were from the paper.
Glass and found objects artist Elizabeth Fortunato showed her work at the art opening reception this evening, too. The show is open through October 10th.
The title is Waiting for the Rain to Stop
The white embroidered dress is from Hey Betty! Vintage Clothing down the street (5890 Ellsworth Avenue)
Piano accompanied a jazzy singer which added to the life of the party

You know the painting. It’s in Chicago. But in Columbus Ohio you can see the scene.
The topiary garden sculptures are A Sunday on La Grande Jette 1884- Georges Seurat
The Topiary Garden in Old Deaf School Park in downtown Columbus Ohio. Artist James T. Mason’s creative idea along with his artist wife Elaine, according to the link -you can click on to read more.
We went there on Father’s Day after church. Thanks for taking me to see it.
