Dandelions are good for the Bees

Dandelions are good for the bees. My friend heard it in the radio- leave the dandelions in your lawn! Saw these two lawns next door to one another at a duplex in Bloomfield. The Weekly Photo Challenge created by Krista Stevens is prolific.

Prolific creeping phlox.   Here’s an article about Dandelions and the Bees http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/dandelions-lawn-bees-1.3526394

Wildflower Paintings on Beehives

IMG_1279

My artist friend Joan paints Pennsylvania Wildflowers on her beehives.  I learned there are different parts to a beehive. (see article link below)

Her bees were busy and didn’t want to be disturbed but Joan assured me she keeps an EpiPen in case I was allergic.

One thing for sure, the bees will know which hive belongs to them and where to return

Blocking them out over the pencil sketches.

As you can see, Joan has painted lots of flowers onto things in her home, too.

Food Revolution Day Pittsburgh

Fortunately, I ran into a former colleague and her daughter and they were able to explain what was happening at the field at Obama Academy this afternoon when I was driving home from school. Food Revolution Day!   In conjunction with Jamie Oliver, the third annual Food Revolution Day was taking place all over the globe today.

I took home an organic purple pepper plant for my neighbor to plant in his garden.

Here is Jen’s daughter Wylie, feeding a kid at the petting zoo.
