Meet Menno, from Holland, who has a stand on Saturdays at Winterfeldplatz Market, selling all kinds of licorice. Some with salt. Some with a lot of salt   My eldest son likes licorice. I do, too   But without the salt for me, please. Here is Menno’s website   http://www.lecker-lakritz.de

Somewhere in the archives I have photos of my sister eating a licorice ice cream cone in Twisp Washington. And of course Menno has sold pure licorice powder to our favorite Berlin ice cream store, Kiez Eis, for licorice ice cream. You know I asked.

 

Chocolate Covered Bacon

I happened to be at the Milk Shake Factory on Carson Street last Wednesday.  Did I mention that they have Happy Hour and all Milkshakes are half off fro 4-6 PM?  You might remember the post I did of the place.

It’s right down the street from the Post Office where I had to mail a couple of packages.

Anyway, the chocolate covered bacon,  by Edward Marc Chocolatier, was looking at me.

There are eyes on it, aren’t there?

Once my friend  R brought some over to the house but I can’t remember how it tasted except I know how bacon tastes and I know how chocolate tastes but can’t remember the combo.

Didin’t buy any , just got a half price milkshake, but caught a shot of it with the phone and wondered who got the idea to dip bacon in chocolate.

There are recipes for chocolate covered bacon all over the internet ( I just checked) and it says that it is a popular dish at state fairs.

 

Peda in the Indian Grocery Case

Took this photograph when I was in NYC on Spring Break and my sister was shopping in the Indian Grocery shop.

Here is a recipe for the sweet peda. Flavored with cardamon.  It is made with khoya  “semi-solid thickened milk”  One post said it is similar to ricotta cheese texture but I haven’t made it and would like to know and the recipe says to “grate the khoya” so that doesn’t possible if it is similar to ricotta.  Not enough research but hope someone will comment and fill in the gaps.  I was attracted to it in the case and I shot through the glass.
