Parting shot from afar, through the glass window of the Natatorium. Doesn’t look like 50 meter length from this angle. The pool was divided up into sections.

A sampling of the exhibit. I went with the Retired Teachers after a luncheon at Lidia’s.
Memories of childhood in America.
Here are a few-Erector sets and Tinker Toys. Lincoln Logs. Slinky and Etch-a-Sketch, Pac Man and Star Wars. Barbie dolls and GI Joe. Mr. Potato Head and trolls. Spirograph and Cootie. Howdy Doody, Hopalong Cassidy and Roy Rogers.
Maybe you’ll recognize one of your toys from your childhood.
Zelienople Pennsylvania.
“George Washington passed through here on November 30, 1753”
Last Saturday I was on my way to Harmony.
Turns out my route was on Washington’s Trail. You can click the link and get the driving route for Western Pennsylvania. I ended up on the trail by chance.
I just love the phone numbers on this sign.
and here is the Strand Theater in downtown Zelienople which I photographed on the way to Harmony last Saturday. Saved from the wrecking ball by the Strand Theater Initiative.

Knitters find yarn stores when they travel. It’s fun to buy souvenir yarn. Add to the stash. I bought sock yarn dyed after a Monet painting. When I wear them I’ll remember our time in Philadelphia. Of course I have to knit them first.
I bought a size one needle (similar to a toothpick) that is an 8 inch circular and will learn to master making a sock on it after I watch the video a few more times.
You can become creatively inspired in new directions in a new yarn shop.
I was fortunate I had time to knit on this trip.
I walked to Yarnphoria 1016 Pine Street from our hotel. Several times!

The wooden swift and ball winder, used expertly by Yarnphoria owner, Dona.
Gertie, the rescue dog who helps mind the store, liked my lap.
In fact, I think she likes everyone’s lap. There’s a sweet pic of her on the store’s FB page.
Fingering, sock, lace weight, worsted, bulky, chunky are all yarn weights.
Colors arrange like an artist’s palette.

Planning a project out of the “American Wildflowers Collection” cotton yarn made in Philadelphia by Made in America Yarns
(Those are Dona’s cool shoes she got on Etsy)
Rings Around the Collar Pattern. Now that’s a cowl!!!
Proprietor Donna, originally from New York, designs and knits the dresses with gorgeous yarns.
She has great energy to help calculate yardage, do all that knitting math- and I sat and swatched the yarn to get my correct gauge before I left the store. She wound all my yarn for a special project (SPOILER ALERT!)
Not just different weights but all types of fiber content from cotton, bamboo, mohair, silk, merino wool to super luxurious cashmere. You name it.

Here’s a review I found online –
“Adorable shop! Fantastic yarn! The owner is amazing and will help you with anything you need. What yarn to use for what time of year, what yarn to use for babies, anything you need. If you’re a beginner or advanced, she is just amazing – and she knits/crochets? castles! And hats! And dresses! She can make anything and wants to help you make anything as well. A perfect location for a perfect shop. Of the 5 yarn stores I’ve been to in my life, this takes the cake by far.”
That lengthy title gives it all away -Another post of last week’s time in Philadelphia –
Sculptor and excellent ice carver, Roger Wing, transformed a 100 year old Norway Maple stump into an impressive likeness of Pastor George Duffield (b.1732-d.1790).
(Click Roger Wing Sculptor and you can see more examples of his amazing sculpture.)
Walking back to the hotel, I passed by The Old Pine Street Church Graveyard.
Architect Joseph G. Brin article details information about how this Revolutionary War Minister’s sermon inspired John Adams to sign the Declaration of Independence.
The wind made the flags billow and flap, making snapping sounds.
Unlike the Harmonist Cemetery I posted yesterday, these graves are marked.
Well, they were marked.
Years of erosion have made many names difficult to read.
Harmony – the weekly photo challenge.
I thought a report from Harmony, PA would make an interesting and different post.
Always seeking fresh blog content.
I was already out in my car and drove along the Ohio River without the the GPS. When I put Harmony PA into Maps App I was taken first to the street signs at the bottom of this post. Harmony, Pennsylvania is about 30+ miles north of the city, Pittsburgh.
Unfortunately the Harmony Museum was closed for the day by the time I got to town so will find a willing friend and return. (Preferably on a Spring day with some blue sky.)
I read they have a German Christmas Market, too. Views of Main Street and
We will have lunch at the Stohr Haus Bakery .
Have to plan to arrive at the right time, next time.
Open Wed-Fri 7-2 Saturday 8-2

Have you ever seen a cemetery without a single marker?

Steve and I went to Harmony in March 2010 (blogpost at night) for a poetry reading at the Bottlebrush Gallery
Today I shopped in the gallery- bought tea towels and a baby quilt.
Because I took a circuitous route, avoiding the interstate and driving the secondary roads, my phone GPS took me to 3 Harmony signs near the town of Baden, PA. Unintentional but interesting to find three Harmony signs.
Received a great response from Harmony Museum Thanks Ruth!! A great time to visit us next would be June 11th. It is our Herb & Garden Fair (at our Harmonist Barn), Fiber Festival in town, and Springfest in town. Lots going on! Free shuttle between the barn and town. Food, entertainment, artists, demonstrations, so much to photograph that day! Starts at 9 am and runs until 3 pm, though the shops are open later than that!
Unexpected find outside Zeke’s Coffee, Friday morning.
Feeling one with the shiny Christmas ornament tacked to a tree in East Liberty.
Steve waits as I capture myself in this golden orb. The weekly photo challenge – harmony
I felt happy the leftover ornament was waiting there with snow on top as we exited Zeke’s.
Definitely through my eyes-struck a chord within me, made me laugh.
“Of course, harmony also has a meaning outside of the world of music: “the quality of forming a pleasing and consistent whole.” I look forward to seeing Harmony — a photo that is, or makes you feel harmonious — through your eyes.” Michelle W. of WordPress
