We’re Knitting Chickens

Did you know that real chickens are used as emotional support animals to reduce anxiety and reduce isolation?

My friend Terry and I saw The Needles at the Ready podcast episode 102 where hosts Kevin and Ray told about the emotional support chickens they had knit. I was in Croatia when I watched this podcast so got yarn in the city center of Zagreb at Vuna Kavana.

There were Emotional Support Chicken kits with fun names (ie. Betty Egg-White, Dolly PartHen)you could order a kit from the The Knitting Tree L.A. “LIFE IS HARD. WE ALL NEED A CHICKEN TO HELP MAKE IT BETTER.” Was the tagline.

My friend Terry bought the kit from
The Knitting Tree L.A. where I bought just the pattern designed by Annette Corsino

My friend Alicia texted “Make sure you put a little heart in em when you stuff ❤️”

She sent this quote to me “🥹The Wizard says to the Tin Man: “And remember, my sentimental friend, that a heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others.”

Awww what a great idea, Alicia. Thank you for the idea. I knit a tiny heart and stuffed it

Weekly Photo Challenge: Masterpiece

Tough challenge this week.   For me, at least.

I didn’t want to post a painting from the Metropolitan Museum from my archives or someone else’s idea.

There have been a lot of creative and unusual masterpieces posted by fellow bloggers .  And although there’s plenty of grandchildren artwork where I’m vacationing, how could I chose a single piece from one of the four?

In Ohio, there are no majestic tall ships with light on their sails  like  Frizz in Germany or Colline’s intricate handmade ship models, or Francine’s stunning views of the Grand Canyon or Meg’s post of Capri. Or Madhu’s edible masterpiece.

There are so many others to see and even a brand new grandchild for Gilly

So keeping it simple.  Very simple

Fresh Eggs Make the Best Omelet

My colleague brought me a dozen fresh eggs from her chickens. Thanks S.

I loved how each egg had a date written on the end.  I made an omelet this Saturday morning with some Cabot Creamery Extra Sharp White Cheddar.  Maybe a tad too much butter.  Couldn’t cook and photograph with the cell phone simultaneously.  I was told you want “sound” when the eggs hit the pan.

I know the chickens are well cared for and eat organic feed.  Fresh eggs make the best omelet.  It was delicious.  If I were a true photographer I would have made a neater looking one and photographed it again but no one else around to eat the wrinkled one. I went on Google images to see how my omelet fares by comparison and I think it is fine. These eggs are too precious to waste.

Yes, a little too much butter.  Eat the toast with jam no butter due to excess amount on the eggs!

Fresh Eggs Color Study from Mar’s Neighbor’s Hens

They look as if they were dyed with food coloring for Easter.

They are not.

These eggs were a gift to Marlene from her neighbor when the family was visiting in Hardy, Virginia.   The variety of colors in the shells was amazing to me.  And they tasted delicious.
