Mend
Mend.
No, it’s not the word of the week. And I haven’t done much mending lately.
It’s just that Mark asked if I could mend/repair his beloved Dude Cowichan Sweater. Both elbows were worn. I brought it home with me from Ohio.
There’s an incredible sense of satisfaction in having accomplished this task.
I got some yarn and mended the holes first, and then I ordered elbow patches and stitched them on using a blanket stitch. The tiny perforations weren’t easy to get the needle through and I wish I had my mother’s thimble. It’s in my house but I didn’t look too deeply.
Mark’s sweater looks brand new.
No, I didn’t knit it. I mended it.
Just repaired the holes in the elbows and added the patches.

A Quick Shopping Trip New Year’s Eve- Clothes Minded on Liberty Avenue- Bloomfield
After two attempts to get to the Italian Grocery stores on New Year’s Eve we headed to the regular market
We were just driving by on our way to the grocery store and
“Buy Sell Trade” the sign said in the window.
“They look open even though it’s New Year’s Eve. ” “Okay, just ten minutes to look. I’ll wait in the car.”
I told my son.
In a few minutes, he came back to the car and said “MOM, you gotta come in and bring your camera and blog it!”
So I did.
Business owners Josh folding pants while Cope was stitching and opted for No Photos on the blog. Another day.
Style
New York City street shot from when I visited my sister last June.
I was photographing people engaged with their technology- they weren’t paying any attention to me or my camera I think this woman was trying to get into the shade a bit to see her phone screen, reduce the glare.
Thoughts on style…………decorating, home, fashion, hair, writing-
What’s in style these days?
Have you ever been out of style?
Did you ever cramp anyone’s style?
Do you know anyone whose style is stuck in another decade? or maybe their style is making a comeback?
Who decides what’s in style or out of style?
What is your style?
Retro Storefront- Men’s Shop
New views on the way to school.
Brownsville Road, Mt. Oliver (which is a “borough surrounded entirely by the city of Pittsburgh.”)
Bleecker Street Hat Shop
My grandfather wore hats. So did my dad. My sons and son-in-law all enjoy wearing hats. My grandsons sport baseball caps. My cousin Jim loves hats and I know my friend E’s husband collects them. I have purchased hats to cheer myself in winter. To provide shade in summer.
I walked by Goorin Bros. storefront on Monday and went in, learning that their first hat was sold off a horse cart in Pittsburgh PA in 1895 (according to the story on their website). I live in Pittsburgh so this caught my attention. The woman behind the counter was coaxing a flattened straw hat back to life after a shot of steam. She showed me the old tractor seats that are now stools in the store. I was waiting for my sister to complete some work and walking around the West Village, exploring. The photo of the exterior on Monday had the cellar metal doors open so I went back Tuesday afternoon and took another. The door was open and there was a young man sporting a hat behind the counter. I asked if I could take his photo and he said okay, (as I’m sure tourists ask all the time) So this is Ryan selling some very cool hats. Jessica, I will photograph you next time!

And they have a blog
Two Mannequins, Two Men
Walking along Carson Street on the South Side, a slight movement caught my eye. I stopped. The man on the phone looked up.
I “asked” if I could take a picture with mime-like camera, he gave a nod yes, went back to his phone as I fumbled in my bag for my real camera, not my iPhone. Had the settings wrong, took another one quick. Got his attention and acted like I was typing, conveying I would email it as I hurried back to my car across the street. I was thinking about the cookie jars in the second hand store across from the post office but I felt this was the shot of the day!
