I Saw These at Friday Night’s Football Game
Unattended iPhone Pic
One of my Photography Two students left me a little surprise on my iPhone (which I’d left unattended on my desk)
Uh-oh. Let that be a reminder to keep my phone away in the future. It’s usually in my top drawer.
Sharing it on the blog because I laughed out loud when I found this photograph in my photostream. It gave me pause.
I’ve a set of Victorian Masks – this one is Horatio Nelson 1st Viscount Nelson. It was on my desk, too.
My guess is
1.she saw the mask,
2. she saw my phone,
3. she felt inspired
4. and created this in a few short seconds.
5. Left it for me to find.
6. Never mentioned it.
(Way to go AZ!)
7. I blogged it!
Homecoming High Heels Study Two
If you’ve been following me since last October, the photos below may seem familiar.
Last year’s homecoming heels post is here
I couldn’t walk in these fancy shoes, I know that.
Probably couldn’t get them on my feet, like Cinderella’s stepsisters couldn’t get that glass slipper on their foot either.
High heels look fashionable and glamorous, uncomfortable.
And, they don’t stay on
very long at all.
My Grandmother’s Quilt and About to Jump in Monday
A verb.
A noun.
Hopefully not my nerves or the rope
I hang onto with my best grip.
I sleep with the comfort of the worn red calico and
yellowed muslin quilt my grandmother stitched decades ago.

Farmersville, Illinois She’s the one who taught me to knit when I was four.
. I told my friend V what the photo challenge word of the week was and she said,
“Fray? That’s an easy one. You start school Monday.”

Starting the Day at School
My School Neighbor Gave Me These- Said They Look Like Me
A couple of weeks ago, my next door neighbor at school put out a call for a poster about reading.
There was to be a state inspection and a visual aid encouraging reading was on the checklist. When I saw her in the hall, I offered a collage of photographs of students reading their favorite books. She was thrilled and one of her students created a large poster with the photos and added some text about the benefits of reading.
It looked good and she told me it was well received by the inspection team. My colleague was pleased. And grateful. I wish I had a photo of the finished poster to include in this post but it is at school.
As a thank you, she brought me this unexpected gift.
She said when she saw them at the store, they reminded her of me. I looked in the mirror and I see the resemblance!
When I saw the smiling face socks, I thought of fellow blogger Stef and her Smile, Kiddo blog. Always on the lookout for smiles.
Here’s a link to a cool post titled What I Like About Me.
Right now the high school students are working on creating images for a positive image campaign so it’s a great post for that theme.
p.s. You can see Twilight, Gregory Crewdson’s book of photographs. If you haven’t seen his movie Brief Encounters about how he makes his photographs, check out the trailer and the film.
Back to Real Time and Green Pepper Jelly
Thanks for looking at the four days of 2010 Snowmaggedon photos this week. I imagine most people are weary of watching and talking about any weather ad nauseum but depending where you live, it’s been tough to ignore.
(Okay, Rob, Shuey and Kristin don’t mind sending the Florida temps to me)
Right now I’m curled up with a laptop and a shawl, enjoying the flannel sheets, unwinding from the week, deciding whether or not to go down to the basement to take the clothes out of the dryer while they are still warm and unwrinkled or wait until morning and give them a quick whirl.
This is what I found on my computer keyboard on my school desk this morning. Yes, I considered tidying up for the shot, taking off the knitting, removing the battery charger, pushing the papers to the side but this is what it actually looked like, unretouched. The custodian who cleans my room left me a lovely heart of chocolates. An early morning surprise.
not artfully arranged or set up. AS IS. A jumble but authentic.
(See the Knitting Blog for student progress in knitting since last post)
Thursday night the girls and boys basketball teams won their respective games in the playoffs and advanced to the next round. I photographed both games and this is what it looked like when I left school around nine. Getting more proficient at the action shots. The players sure move fast.
On my way to the parking lot, I looked back and saw this scene outside of the school.
The Manager’s Special today, heart shaped donuts. The students appreciated them even if they are probably on a list of food one should never eat!
And then the bonus of the day- homemade Green Pepper Jelly shipped via the USPS from Omaha, Nebraska. Thanks J. Steve and I had some fancy appetizers before dinner. Steve had bought a container of organic cream cheese so I opened it and put them on some gift crackers Steve brought home.
This dish was given to me by my loving neighbors Ann and MJ who have both passed.
So that’s my Friday. Thanks for making and sending the jar of Pepper Jelly, J! Delicious.
Not the Lottery But Fun to Receive Call Saying You’re a Winner!
Bought two raffle tickets LAST JANUARY to support one of my student’s effort to fund her People to People Ambassador trip to Australia. They’ve been on my fridge, held by a magnet, for MONTHS!
Thanksgiving night an unknown number appeared on my cell phone. Was everything all right?
Yes, won two tickets to Sunday’s home Steelers Game. It was unexpected and fun to get the phone call, saying, ” You won!”
(Now if I’m going to win the Mega Millions Lottery around here, I’ll have to actually purchase a lottery ticket one of these days)

Zamboni at Ice Castle
Castle Shannon ,PA.
Castle Shannon Boulevard.
Ice Castle Arena. I’d driven around in the dark in unfamiliar territory, spending a few minutes on Castle Road, a reidential neighborhood NOT the right castle.
Here is Zamboni on Ice after the second period.
One of my students plays on the Carrick team and invited me to come and watch and bring my camera. I sent his mom the photos I took of him but am posting this one of the Zamboni driver, grooming the ice for the third period.
Or resurfacing as they say in the biz.
Zamboni biz. Kudos to Frank Zamboni (1901-1988) who invented this mighty machine.
