Not sure how these ants found their way to the bottom of the cream honey jar but here they are. What a shock to find them, encased in the crystallized honey. I can’t tell you how long it’s been since I reached for this toast topping. It was a jolt!
I think I’ll stick with jam.
My sister suggested looking up chocolate covered ants and yes, you can buy them to be shipped to your home.

Milkweed bugs are NOT pests according to this article “ Lesser Milkweed Bugs (Lygaeus kalmii) and Large Milkweed Bugs (Oncopetus fasciatus), look very similar to each other. They are differentiated by size and the design on their backs.”
Charlie found these Milkweed Bugs on the milkweed as we walked around his neighborhood. Their coloring is a warning to predators, “don’t eat me!”
I’d not experienced the cicadas incessant sounds until I came out here for a visit. The trees are filled with the red eyed insects. It’s been 17 years since they’ve emerged. Here an article about this species, not to be confused with the annual cicadas.

They are everywhere.
You see lots of bugs on the gas pump- they look like fireflies but with a red chevron..need to identify them later……
You see the trees reflected in the iPad surface as you sit on the front porch.
You go get in the car and see a puddle with leaves. Puddle reflections are a favorite thing to capture.
You see the shopping cart corral reflected in a parking lot.
The maple has finally turned yellow in about four days time. The leaves in the garage gutter need to be cleaned out.
You drive by the neighbors, put the car in reverse and put a blinker on, consider getting out of the car but don’t –
shoot the flaming ivy from the driver’s seat. Later you are filled with regret that you’ve gotten so lazy.

Florida. A couple of years ago. I was shooting a friend’s daughter’s wedding. We stopped at the market to shop for supper. Not for live crickets. I just happened to see them there at the market.
Remove bottom lid to fill?
This display was something I’d not seen before. Seemed an interesting offering in a food market. I have driven by signs for Live Bait over the years but never really thought about it as I’ve never gone fishing. I didn’t pick a canister up to see if it was filled or empty. There are no holes for air? Maybe these are empty, waiting for you to fill them? Maybe some of my friends and followers who fish or keep spiders will know.
I looked up Live Crickets and discovered there is a whole industry. Also read a lot about crickets being kept as pets. People need them to feed their pet spiders and reptiles. Never really thought about that either.
Maybe best not thought about. The food chain. These are for fishing?
Just a bit different photo to start off the week. Once in second grade, a long time ago, we studied a unit on Grasshoppers and then the teacher opened a tuna size can of them and we all tried to eat a piece of grasshopper. No kidding. What I remember is that it was like the hull of a popcorn kernel and it was oily. I can’t remember any taste to describe. It did not taste like chicken.

School’s out for the summer so I’m not in my home territory. Most days I shoot photographs as I drive around the city. But I am seeing different scenery these days. We went to a T-ball game on Saturday morning.
Four Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies fell out of the van onto the pavement and their bright orange caught my eye but I thought, nah, four bitty snack crackers are not worth a photograph since we have to get to the game and haul the fold-up chairs and the bag of snacks for the team. I mean another day I could do a Snack Cracker still life but we were in a rush.
Imagine my surprise when we returned to the van. The neon orange obliterated. Ants working hard to live.

and then as we pulled out of the school parking lot by the baseball fields, there was a church parking lot and a scene I wanted to photograph. This is when you are probably annoying to your daughter-in-law but she doesn’t mind and pulls over by the dumpster and I got out and took about 4 quick shots on the gray day.
and the detail. My DIL asked if I wanted to come back and pick it up to take back home since it wasn’t broken!
A quick trip to the zoo and the reptile house. The kids got a chance to touch the Rosy Boa. I photographed the Pythons devouring rabbits but it is too graphic.
The Columbus Zoo has a lovely 1914 Carousel, restored. The youngest 3 grandkids took a ride.
