Look What’s Happening in Niceville Florida! Guest Blog

6:57 am update from Niceville adding to

Original post

“All done I think. Currently, 22° and 5 inches of snow that stopped about 11 PM last night. Most major roads are currently closed.

We had a snow sled that we bought at a yard sale about 30 years ago. At 22° outside, I am not planning on getting it out!  😁”

Unexpected text from a friend with this scene in Niceville, Florida!

Earlier it was 28 degrees and temp lower now

Almost 5 inches of snow and still accumulating. So glad we moved to Florida. A good day for soup and. . . . Homemade pumpkin bread! Your mom’s recipe. First time we’ve tried it and it is good!” Shuey

“Magnolia leaves are fairly large and collected quite a bit of snow until they shed it due to the weight. The end result is the driveway looks like the end of a snowball fight.” Shuey

It was almost 13 years ago that our family friend Shuey sent this wonderful photo of the Barred Owl and was guest blogger. It was the most viewed post that year!

Some Sun but really cold

Bringing Spring Inside

Our winter days in Pittsburgh are mostly cold and gray with spots of infrequent sun.

These efforts help counteract the dreariness.

Nature.

Thursday morning I was on my way to get a haircut. I pulled over and stopped on the hill to take this photo.

A Turkey Vulture having a winter lunch of road kill, either rabbit or squirrel.

Today’s topic a little grim perhaps but the bird is dependent on something to scavenge and can’t go to the market to buy lunch.

Level Three Snow Emergency in Athens

Athens in Southeast Ohio.

“All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be on the roadway unless it is essential to travel or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.

Guest blogger Anna sent these photos today and she and her housemates walked to get a frozen pizza at the Dollar General as only emergency vehicles were to be on the roads.

Her roommates made an igloo

And here’s the snowplow coming around again at night

Look What Charlie Found!

Saturday morning Laura said to Charlie (9)

as he was taking this photo

“Make it art!”

Guest blog looks great, Charlie. Thank you.

Blown Glass Ornament Trees at Franklin Park Conservatory

Laura, Roy and I went to the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Columbus Ohio.

The Glass Ornament trees were something to see! The weather was a bit gray and wet but our spirits weren’t dampened.
