Weekly Photo Challenge: Between

Friday afternoon at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Hall of Architecture.

With three of the grandchildren, one of them is always “between”.

This week’s challenge is hosted by the Danielle Hark founder of a blog I follow-

“Danielle is a photographer, writer, life coach, and the founder of the online gallery and nonprofit Broken Light Collective, which empowers people affected by mental illness using photography.”

Practicing Portraits on the Front Porch

The grandkids came out to the porch, one at a time, and let me photograph them. Willingly.

I told them I was practicing. The ambient light was nice as it was late in the day, after supper.

They look to be enjoying their vacation at Grandma’s house.

They didn’t mind  helping me check out my replacement 24-70mm lens.  We went over to the playground afterwards since the rain stopped and the sun appeared.

I’m photographing a wedding on Saturday and wanted to get the feel of the weight of the lens.  It’s lighter than the 70-200mm of course, but heavier than the 50mm I’ve had on this particular camera.  This is my favorite lens. It was a year ago, almost to the day, that my lens fell and broke into smithereens.

Hot Town Summer in the City

Back of my neck feeling dirty and gritty.

This is a photograph without a caption other than waiting. One of my self-assignments is to experience more street photography this summer.

Taken with a 100-300mm Canon lens.  The old lightweight one.  Bought it used for $150 at the Camera Repair store.

Shot through the driver’s side glass when I was at  a red light.  I think I was spotted.

Watching the River AND the Ball Game @ PNC Park

Drove back from Columbus to Pittsburgh with the youngest three grandchildren for a vacation at Grandma’s House.

We went downtown toPNC Park to see  the Pirates game. It was Pittsburgh Public Schools Night.

Wasn’t sure how I’d manage with all three ( 5, 7 and almost 9) but it was fine. There was a mixture of fun and boredom for them.

A hot summer night.  No rain. Saw a lot of students from school and the grandchildren seemed fascinated as the kids called my name.

Our seats had a great vantage point for the activity on the Allegheny River, too.

St. Mary of the Mount- Grandview Avenue- Pittsburgh PA

When we were walking around the Three Rivers Arts Festival, I looked up and saw this church on the top of Mount Washington.

The lighting really stands out.

Here are several views to give the perspective.  St. Mary of the Mount

Fire Consumption at 7th and Penn Avenue

We were headed back to the car after walking down to the Point and the Three Rivers Arts Festival.

On the corner was a street performer, consuming fire.  Yikes!

I asked what it was like the very first time, when she was learning to do it. I could not imagine even attempting this feat. My daughter Laura said watching  it makes her nervous.

I found it mesmerizing to watch.    Photographing fire  is something I need to read about for a future shoot.

She graciously agreed to my photographing and blogging it.  You can follow her @PghFireGirl

You have to see it up close and in person to get the full effect…..my photos can’t really capture the fire eating adequately.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Extra, Extra

This week’s challenge of Extra, Extra is defined on WordPress

“A beautiful photo is one thing, but a photo with an unexpected detail has personality and pop. This week, share a photo that has a little something extra. writes Michelle W…Draw us in with a humorous detail”

Last night at the Point, where the Allegheny River and the Monongahela come together to form the Ohio, I saw this group of young people sitting at the edge.

Dancing at Bougival as Turn of the Century Giant Sculpture

I was downtown at the Camera Repair Service again.  Don’t ask.  Used a different camera card to experiment and tes.

Here is the delight of the day- (Stef!)

A monumental sculpture by J Seward Johnson has been at PPG Place for “about four days”, the guard said.

But don’t worry.  The giant dancers will be in place until October.
