Meet Paul Spradley who was filming the house being moved on Neville Island today. I told him about my People at Work project and he consented to be in the show next July. See below to see the video on the KDKA News tonight. There were a LOT of people at work today, moving the house. Even going under the house and ratcheting with a long metal tool to steer and guide the house. They all worked together and had a successful house move. I’ll have to photograph them another day as they were all REALLY busy.
Here’s a linkto the clip on the KDKA evening news
And here are a few stills from the day. The last two are from my friends who invited me down to their neighborhood to see the move. It was an amazing feat. I had to leave to head to Ohio to pick up three grandkids so I missed the 360 degree they executed at the end so the front door faced the street. I did see the utility pole being moved by the Utility Crew so the house could get by. Not sure how many hours the street was without power but it was a long day’s work, not to mention the preparation that was necessary beforehand. It was a beautiful day, not too cold.

And the home owner John, on the right, the one who moved the house down the street.
My friends Deb and Sy, Neville Islanders. Thanks for inviting me down to witness this astounding feat! And for your guest photos!

We’re down to less than six full days before the 25th. Should I title this post Procrastination is an Art Form? Last year I gave my son-in-law a box of balls of yarn. He asked for a sweater. I’ve inflicted my hand knitted gifts on numerous unsuspecting recipients so when I get a specific request, it’s a thrill. My one son said”Ma, I think we’ve got enough hats.”
To blog it not to blog last night? Priorities? I’m getting three grandkids as houseguests starting today. I can’t knit a patten where I have to check the chart and the count very well while hostessing . Mindless knitting I can do in the company of others.
So it’s crunch time. I was determined to finish those sleeves before I went to sleep. Phew. I’m pretty sure one is a bit wider than the other.
James will get this sweater by Christmas. It can’t be in pieces. Joanne told me how to cast on the fronts and back and knit all at the same time so no side seams.
Plus, I’m headed to photograph the house moving adventure.
Will I make it? Stay tuned
Did I mention I’ve one full ball of yarn left?
The color is called “concrete ”
It’s time to play Yarn Chicken, too.

Guest blog today by my friend River Watcher on Neville Island.
Thanks Deb for sending these pictures today.
Their whole neighborhood is planning to come out and watch this entire house be moved to the waiting lot up the street. The foundation will be dug AFTER the House is moved. My plan is to go document the actual moving of the house on Tuesday morning.
I’m amazed this can be done. When Mark was little in 1978 we watched a house be moved down the street in Philadelphia.

ready to roll
Look at the unexpected fun I had at COSTCO when I sampled a Lindt truffle. I met Tammy, the Lindt Representative, and Kimberly and Christine who were offering the samples and talking with customers. Spoiler Alert :You know I bought some, too. It was an iPhone day as I didn’t have my good camera with me.

How fortunate my neighbors scheduled their trees to be trimmed,
The branches were growing into the side of their house.
After Steve moved the cars out of the garage and onto the street, I thought to myself- “hmmmm- People at Work, right in my driveway!” Perfect for an interesting photo shoot. Andrew agreed to allow me to photograph him working. You should see those spikes that help him climb up the tree. Takes a lot of skill and care. You have to know what you are doing. Ascend is the word of the week, showing upward movement.
Meet Andrew. I shot this with the 70-200 Lens.

The invitation to a colorful table.
Anticipation.
Fresh baked muffins. Butter. French press coffee. Fresh fruit and yogurt. A glass of apple cider mixed with sparkling water. Thanks for a delicious breakfast, Joan.

Little boys love trains. It was fun going to experience the model trains through Charlie’s eyes.
“There are five miniature trains running on 280 feet of track.”
Monday morning, Laura and Charlie and I went to the Columbus Main Library downtown to see the Huntington Holiday Train Display.
The train display is a tradition since 1992 built by Paul Busse. He created all the buildings with moss, seeds, pine cones, bark and natural plant materials
The setting is Bavaria in Germany, buildings patterned after Rothenburg and Bernkastel- the Frauenkirche Cathedral is one in Dresden- Columbus Sister City. You might recognize Mad Ludwig’s castle.

in the Children’s Library there is a wonderful aquarium.
