I’ve had some excellent contributions from family members and friends, as my own travel has been restricted, during these Pandemic times.

The Neighbor’s Hydrangeas

I’ve seen quite a few photos of hydrangeas on other blogs lately. These looked especially lush.

I just received word from Happy DIY Home “We just published an updated, comprehensive guide on 27 perennial flowers that come back every year. It is completely free and you can find it here: https://happydiyhome.com/flowers-that-come-back-every-year/article with 27 Perennials listed.
Check it out

“The name hydrangea comes from the Greek words “hydor” meaning water and “angos” meaning vessel. Which together roughly translate to “water barrel”. This is because of the fact that hydrangeas are notorious for needing lots of water and the cup shaped flowers. The name, Hortensia, is a Latin version of the French word Hortense.” From plant Addicts click to read all about Hydrangeas

Thanks Kelly.

Freedom Tower Two Views

My sister sends me photos from her early morning walks in New York City.

Her guest blogging helps me with interesting posts when I’m not really going anywhere.

It’s cool she’s a tourist where she lives. Thanks, Mary.

Sharon Weaver – Portrait Artist

Portrait and a Plein Air Artist, Sharon Weaver is also my son-in-law’s mother.

This afternoon I walked up to the front steps and saw a package on the stoop. I read the return address and thought it looked like a box for artwork, stamped “fragile” .

Imagine my surprise when I unwrapped it and saw myself, Knitting.

I think she captured my likeness.

Thank you for the magnificent painting, Sharon. I can tell you put a lot of ❤️ in it. A happy birthday present, indeed!

I thought one of these was real

I had to look again. My sister sent me this window scene she saw on one of her morning walks around New York City.

Silent Sunday

My friend Joan gave me this perennial.
I will ask her the name of it and add.
Update :Bear’s Britches(breeches) is the common name . It is a wildflower that grows in Pa woods. Needs sun to flower as it is doing now. I will look up the Latin name and get back in to you later.

Second update Ruth it is acanthus mollis. It needs partial shade and very wet soil. It needs some sun to bloom well. It can be invasive so you have to watch it and pull out stems and roots if it starts to expand. I have not found it to be a problem in that regard but I don’t let it expand much

And then my sister just sent me a photo from her Hudson River Walk today in New York City

A Birthday Card from 1963

You know I’m always trying to cull the memorabilia around my home. Glad I saved this one as I found it again just in time for today.

This is a birthday card from my mother and father wishing me a happy Fourth of July birthday. The year I turned eleven. 1963. I looked on the back and it’s a Norcross card for 25 cents. I was visiting my godmother in Maybelle, Colorado that birthday. My mother wrote “What a life.to have a ride on a super jet.” The red words are raised and flocked.

A cool find while cleaning out papers in the desk.. my dad’s lengthy messages inside includes an itinerary for my brother’s trip to Philmont Ranch in New Mexico with the Boy Scouts.

There is also a lovely card from my sister from this year, too. Happy Birthday to me😀

My mother lets me guess which picture on the front resembles me!
My dad filled up the entire interior of the card when I unfolded

Lettuce from a Friend’s Garden

I got a text that my friend saying she was in the driveway. She’d brought a bag of homegrown lettuce from her garden. I sat on the side porch stoop, she stayed in her car. We talked a bit. Thanks for the delicious lettuce, Joan. You wrapped it so carefully in the wet towels. It was crispy and refreshing. Summer.
