Train Ride to Denali
Mary and I got a cab to the Anchorage Railroad Depot, checked in our tagged bags, drank a delicious coffee and waited to board the glass roofed train to Denali.
At the start of the train ride there were just nine of us and then 58 joined us at Talkeetna. It’s now the end of the season that started in May.
We decided to get breakfast after an early start
Mary ordered the reindeer/ egg scrambler skillet.
Chef Malachi cooked our breakfasts to perfection! Delicious.
Jerrica tended the bar at the front of the car
Our conductor A.J. He has to get off the train to manually switch the tracks so we could wait on the side as another train passed, going south.
Matthew our excellent server on the left and Crystal our knowledgeable tour guide.
Both of them made it a fun and memorable adventure. The train ride is about eight hours. We didn’t knit or nap, didn’t want to miss a single second.

We saw a pair of Trumpeter Swans who mate for life.
Their young ones were swimming on their own
After the lunch crowd left the dining car and went back upstairs, I enjoyed a Forest pie with rhubarb, apple, blackberry and strawberries topped with vanilla ice cream. Matt asked if I wanted a lot of whipped cream or a little. 🙂
Everyone was so nice, the scenery so incredible. Andy took a photo of us at the table too, which was great for the memory book, but unfortunately I did not take his pic.
We highly recommend the train tour.
Penn Station Panorama
Holiday travel at peak? Not yet.
That will be this coming Wednesday.
But when the trains for Boston were announced (as I stood under the departure boards) I thought I might get run over by the rush of humanity.
Getting to their platform, getting to their train home. Rush rush rush.

One Word Friday
Needed a title for this graffiti on a bridge down by the Monongahela. One Word Friday seemed appropriate as I couldn’t post it for Wordless Wednesday.
Just wondering who was motivated and took the time to write this on the bridge.
I don’t think it is a band.
Train Trestle in Traffic
Driving down the Parkway West as they call it (Route 376) the construction area provided lots of traffic.
Cars with brakes and I was able to photograph a scene I’ve just admired from the driver’s seat.
Train cars on the tracks were the added bonus.
Light Through Overhead Railroad Ties
Down in Pittsburgh’s Strip District by the scrap yard and tracks. My car was parked under the old railroad bridge.
Lines, patterns, rhythm, repetition-all those elements we look for in class. Finding these elements everywhere.
I love the light on the cross bar, giving a sense of depth.
This first image is the strongest compositionally. But the others give you a sense of the place.

Antique Emporium in Beaver Falls, PA
Upon entering the Antique Emporium, a lovely woman invited me to have cool water, offered me a glass of wine, the use of the facilities AND there was a basket of free tomatoes.
Obviously I was a a first-timer. “You are welcome to take photographs. ” she said. That was all I needed.
There are three floors and over 75 Dealers’ Booths of everything you can think of- and then some more things you didn’t know existed in the world.
The “like items” are categorized and displayed together, so if you are into political buttons, license plates, or milk bottle collections you don’t have to dig through other stuff. It is so organized and tidy.

We didn’t play any games but these goldfish were foisted on us by a girl who won them. Sadly, both are deceased already(the first within 24 hours) despite the investment in an aquarium with filter and lights and pretty gravel and conditioning the water etc etc.
