Airedale Duo on Guard

Henry and Josie anticipate Maura’s arrival, as she brings @perpetual_puppy_airedale  (AKA Scout) into the house on Saturday afternoon.
My Pandemic pup(pet) has entertained the grandchildren virtually but Saturday they got to meet him in real life. He’s got an Instagram account and I’ve photographed him and posted. Maura said to me -when I had him on Face Time – let me see him run around on the floor, show me both your hands!  He’s the best kind of pup for me, zero maintenance.
Four of the Grandkids, their mom and two real Airedales and were here this weekend for a quick 24 hour visit. I had not seen them in 3 months.

His Mom’s Popple From the Eighties

This is his Mom’s Popple from the eighties. They were the desired toy of 1987 when Laura was four. Of course, I’d saved it.

Charlie (4) Is enjoying playing with it. Getting some play time a second time around.

The arms and legs tuck up into a front pocket and it looks like a big fuzzycolorful ball.  There’s a tail with a furry pompon at the end.

I asked Laura what she called it.   “Popple” was her response

I found a commercial for this toy. Not sure how long they were the craze.

Charlie’s having fun throwing it around.

Rocking Horses in the City

Found a new rocking horse in the city on Wednesday night. East Liberty near the Fireside Grill. Where Zeke’s Coffee roasts their beans. Must be Zeke’s mascot?

Here’s a Gallery of rocking horses seen around Pittsburgh, from previous blogposts.

Vacuum Canister Contents Search

Did you ever suck up a tiny toy piece when you ran the vacuum?

I carefully emptied the contents of the canister (is there any pile left in my red rug?) into a garbage bag, poked around with some pointy scissors. Not a fruitful search.

I did NOT find the little blue Playmobil nozzle end that fit the plastic firefighter’s hose.

I did find a wee drumstick, a knitting marker and a Lego light piece. That was all I could come up with. I should have put a penny down so you could see how small they were. Oh, I found a dusty Cheerio and a length of dental floss, too. Just dirt and dust and fibers. Yuck.

If you’ve followed the blog for awhile, You might remember my dryer lint post.https://rutheh.com/2013/06/05/how-one-looks-at-dryer-lint/

Pots and Pan Lids

Pots and pan lids. Age old play toy for babies and toddlers. Charlie got into the drawer of lids, paused from the task and studied his reflection.

Chex Mix Making

A few alterations to the original recipe but Wednesday night Laura guided Charlie and Maura in the holiday tradition of making Chex Mix. One site says “it’s been a party staple for 50 years”. I can tell you the original recipe was not on the boxes we had this year. Boo.

Baked at 250 F for an hour stirring every 15 minutes. What could be bad about it with all that melted butter and savory salt? Hmmmm

After the Mix making the two cousins played in Charlie’s new train tent. Crawling between the red and blue and back again. Then the added collapsible tunnel component.

A fun night.
