Crying in H Mart-Book Club Snacks

Book Club Meeting was held Thursday evening. Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner is a memoir that will “push the reader to explore Korean food if it is unfamiliar, and share the poignancy of memories intertwined with love and meals past”.

H Mart started in 1982 and has 97 locations in the US. “The H Mart is a supermarket chain that specializes in Asian food. The “H” stands for han ah reum, a Korean phrase that roughly translates to “one arm full of groceries.”

Hostess Sarah outdid herself, procuring Korean foods,drinks and treats for members to try while we discussed the book. Author Michelle Zauner is Korean-American Musician of Indie Pop Band Japanese Breakfast

The Jubilee vinyl album was playing on the stereo when we arrived.

**Crying in H Mart** was June’s Book Club Selection

Here’s a link to Goodreads with more info on the book. Book Club coordinator Nancy asked for a show of hands…Who thought reading the book was worth their time investment reading it? Six out of seven said YES!

Night Porch

The end of the day. Time to go inside the house and read by a good light before bed. Looking forward to coffee on the front porch in the morning. Summer porch season is the best.

Breakfast Casserole for Company

This recipe is loosely based on all the ones all over the Internet but I made it the morning of, not the night before.

This is about ten slices of bread ripped into cube sized pieces and put in a well buttered oven proof dish. Mix 2 C milk with 8 eggs beaten in. Colby Jack cheese in little pieces (a bag of grated cheddar would have been perfect) Salt and pepper. Pour over all the ripped bread. Let it soak in a bit. Bake 45 minutes at 325 til test knife comes clean in the middle. It puffs up. Cut in squares.

Ned Kahn’s Cloud Arbor by the Children’s Museum

Last time I visited the Children’s Museum was August 2019. Today I returned with grandsons Charlie and Roy. (And their Mom, Laura) stopping to see “the pipes” is a family tradition. Ned Kahn is the artist who created this living and breathing sculpture.
