Ten + Years From Now

Because I misplaced the envelope with the 2 school photos Maura gave me, I ordered a basic package so I could replace them.

I was supposed to give her cousin Charlie one before they got lost. Oops!

The minimum order is a “basic package”. What to do with the extra sheet? Envision possibilities for the future.

This I can tell you. It’s tricky to paint and draw on top of these school photos. Clearly I should have researched a neater solution. But I’m going to frame the sheet and take it out for Maura (just turned 11 on Nov 17th if you’re following) when I visit. Original photos credit to HR Imaging of Delaware Ohio

Be Kind and Sport a Cardigan November 13th

World Kindness Day is Wednesday November 13.

Wear your cardigans for World Kindness Day article in Tribune Review by Shirley McMarlin and remember Mr. Fred Rogers who exhibited acts of kindness as a way of life. And wore cardigan sweaters on his television show.

Here’s what Mr. Rogers said about his mother making his sweaters.

“She makes sweaters for many different people,” he told the camera, after showing a picture of his mom and pointing out the intricate details in each piece. “But, that’s one of the ways that she has of saying that she loves somebody.” from article by Samantha Sutton In Style Magazine

Homemade Devil Dogs and Store Bought Snowballs

A couple of weeks ago I was given a homemade Devil Dog from Priscilla, my friend Jen’s mother. She hails from Connecticut. I haven’t seen her mom’s original recipe but I found another one for Devil Dogs in my old Junk Food Cookbook by Lydia Sager.

Her individually wrapped Chocolate home baked Devil Dog snack cake tasted really good.

I’m serious.

I couldn’t find commercial Devil Dogs in the grocery store. Here are some coconut marshmallow skin covered chocolate Snowballs snack cakes filled with probably hydrogenated fat.

I purchased these at Weiland’s Market and Kroger in Columbus a few weeks ago.

Thanks Steve got helping taste these. I think you can keep these indefinitely and they don’t get moldy.

So would you eat one?

His Mom’s Popple From the Eighties

This is his Mom’s Popple from the eighties. They were the desired toy of 1987 when Laura was four. Of course, I’d saved it.

Charlie (4) Is enjoying playing with it. Getting some play time a second time around.

The arms and legs tuck up into a front pocket and it looks like a big fuzzycolorful ball. There’s a tail with a furry pompon at the end.

I asked Laura what she called it. “Popple” was her response

I found a commercial for this toy. Not sure how long they were the craze.

Charlie’s having fun throwing it around.

Glow in the Dark

Charlie’s pajamas glow in the dark. And in the morning, too. I took out my portable Ott Light (thanks Marlene) to charge up the stars so they’d glow even brighter.
