A Dozen Years Ago

One of my favorite photos.

Anna’s birthday weekend. Apple picking. In October 2008. Anna turned 5.

In this photo at the apple orchard, Erika is expecting Maura (12 next month) and Jack was home napping. Michael and Anna are helping pick apples

Through a Porch Door Screen

This is Bob, short for Bobtail, as he does not have a tail. The least feral of feral cats. Steve takes such good care of him. He found a spot of sun and enjoyed the new Kalenchoe centerpiece on my porch table.

Sure Sign of Fall

After leaving my friend’s porch, I went to get into my car and saw the first golden maple leaf on my windshield.

Signs of Autumn in Kiev Market

A guest blog photograph from my daughter-in-law who texted me this early Sunday morning.

Have to find out the Ukrainian word for these mushroom like pumpkin squash? I’ve never seen these before.

First day of fall is Tuesday September 22.

Autumnal Equinox

The word “equinox” comes from Latin aequus, meaning “equal,” and nox, “night.” On the equinox, day and night are roughly equal in length. Farmers Almanac

The  slim crescent moon looks like a bright circle taken with the phone.

First Frost

Autumn Leaves in Photographs

Autumn leaves in photographs. Autumn light.  We’re waiting for the red, yellow and orange colors to arrive. So far we’ve got mostly brown. Waiting for the frost

The leaves in the photographs give a lot of information to the viewer.

Somewhere in a box of old pics I have a photo of the kids with a backdrop of fake autumn trees and birches. I wish I could find it. It’s corny but fun. These photos have real leaves in them.

so if you’re thinking of taking pictures in leaves get ready. Here’s a link to Autumn in Pittsburgh four years ago

Before the snow began

It just takes some getting used to. The new season. It changed this morning. We like the changing seasons, right?

This chilly icy, now tonight, snowy weather.

So hard on the trees, though. The driving.

Getting cozy by adding covers, readying for hibernation, thinking about making pots of chili, soup. Boiling the kettle for tea. Oh yes, keep on knitting a wooly sweater.
