A Tea Wallet

One birthday, my friend Donna mailed me a teabag in a little fabric envelope. Here’s how I learned about another Tea Wallet.

Last week at the NY Public Library, my sister found a murder mystery with knitting on the cover and thought of me. (Yarned and Dangerous by Sadie Hartwell) see cover image below

In the back of the book she said there was a knitting pattern for a Tea Wallet. I found another Tea Wallet pattern for one by Diane Trap on Ravelry. I knit one for my friend Vincie because I knew she carries her own tea bags in her purse. In a little plastic baggie. Not any more!

I made a modification on the front flap and made it a triangle shape, decreasing at each side.

The quilted knitting motion bag serving as a pretty backdrop for the photo shoot was stitched by my Woolswap partner, Catherine, in New Zealand.

(Modified the front envelope flap- shortened it by half and made a triangle by knitting 2 together on edges while in one row BO 3 then next row CO 3 to create a button hole.)

These were photographed vertically on my phone and I attempted to adjust them on the computer before publishing. And of course they look perfectly aligned and oriented to me but I can’t tell if I’ve gotten them correct for some viewers. Trying

Halloween in Ohio

This morning it started at Halloween Storytime at the Clintonville Whetstone Library.

Charlie wore his astronaut costume and after the songs and stories the kids got treats from different stations in the library. The first was at the RETURNS slots. Stick you hand in and get a treat! I thought that was so creative. Then you had to know where to find the Shark books. There was a shark passing out festive Snoopy and Great Pumpkin pencils. There were so many cute and creative costumes but I try to not photograph children I don’t know so it looks like Charlie was on his own which was not the case.

Later Charlie wore a BumbleBee Transformer costume his Dad created from cardboard and duct tape. It was a lot of hard work but came out great. It was fully operational and folded so Charlie could transform from a car to a Bot. The neighbors had a mask Charlie could borrow. Laura passed out the treats. Their neighbors dog, Hudson sported a HOT DOG costume.

At 6:30 I got in the car for the 15 mile drive to Mark and Erika’s to photograph my four grandkids. It was dark and rainy by the time I arrived. Michael was inside the house taking a break….scary mask. And then I found Maura the unicorn her friend, a deer and and tried to capture them Trick or Treating. No flash to be had. Anna was at swimming practice and didn’t get home until after 8. Jack was a soldier and all the kids gave me their Almond Joys cause they aren’t keen on them and they know I like them!

Wings of Desire in Berlin

Tonight I saw this ad for the amazing 1987 film DER HIMMEL UBER BERLIN /(Wings of Desire) directed by Wim Wenders. Showing now in Berlin at Kino in der Kulturbrauerei

Steve and I watched this on a VHS tape from the Homewood Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh, due to my sister’s recommendation.

Library Book Due Dates, No Signatures

Just dates. Due dates. No names. No signatures.

There would be short yellow golf pencils, no erasers. I remember signing my name on a card like this one. Thicker card stock.

Blue lines.

The librarian would remove the due date card from the gold pasted pocket inside the library book.

Everything’s electronic now.

I bought Over in the Meadow, an old discarded library copy, used. Originally sold for $3.26 when it was new and printed before zip codes began.

I always loved the illustrations by Feodor Rojankovsky, especially the one below from “Frog Went A Courting”

Something About Trains

Little boys love trains. It was fun going to experience the model trains through Charlie’s eyes.

“There are five miniature trains running on 280 feet of track.”

Monday morning, Laura and Charlie and I went to the Columbus Main Library downtown to see the Huntington Holiday Train Display.

The train display is a tradition since 1992 built by Paul Busse. He created all the buildings with moss, seeds, pine cones, bark and natural plant materials

The setting is Bavaria in Germany, buildings patterned after Rothenburg and Bernkastel- the Frauenkirche Cathedral is one in Dresden- Columbus Sister City. You might recognize Mad Ludwig’s castle.

in the Children’s Library there is a wonderful aquarium.

Tupelo Honey Teas Cafe in Millvale

They’ve been open since Halloween. Today was my first visit.

You know how I zip across the Allegheny River to get my framing done at Panza Gallery, sip a brew and eat a dinner special at Grant Bar or load up on Brioche and macarons at Jean-Marc Chatteliers Bakery?

Millvale PA posts frequent the blog.

This afternoon I stopped in the Tupelo Honey Teas Cafe and had a delicious ginger tea.

Another Little Library

AND they are all around my daughter’s neighborhood. In fact there is one at the end of their street.

I was fascinated to see so many in just a few blocks as we drove to the playground. Today I made a run to buy knitting needles on Indianola and wound around the tree lined streets and came across of few more. Thought they would be good for the weekly photo challenge=

McKeesport Library -Knit in Public

World Wide Knit in Public Day–Better living through stitching together!

McKeesport Library hosted a Knitting in Public event Saturday June 18th and I drove over the Monongahela River and back to attend. I’m so glad I did. Everyone was so welcoming. It was a perfect summer day though sitting under the tree in the shade was just right.

I was invited to join the group for a picnic lunch, which was delicious and generous of them to include me.

Jody, visiting family in McKeesport but now living in Gainesville FL, reads the history of World Wide Knit in Public Day telling the group how it was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes with just 25 events and now it’s over 850 around the world.”

Jody’s daughter Ellie, going into Fifth grade, was the youngest member of the Knit in Public Event.

Many of the women knit hats, blankets and or shawls for Chemotherapy patients and donate them to several hospitals including Magee and Veterans.They get together throughout the year on Thursdays.

Another Ruth just started knitting but she has crocheted beautiful Butterfly shawls and blankets. Some of the women knit at the Magee Hospital group which hosted a KIP event today, too. There were events at Mt. Lebanon Library and Steel City Fiber, too. And if you go to the site, you will see there was KIP in the Arctic Circle, too.

Kim’s two color knitted hat matched both her shirt and pants!
