Meet Janice Schuler. Artist. Today there was an Artist’s Studio Tour in Lawrenceville. Her painting studio is in the basement of this repurposed church and was number one on the tour. I’d met Janice last night at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and she invited me to visit her studio during the Studio Tour. There was wine and beer, bottles of water and cheese and crackers and a tray of sweets, too. Other artists studios were open as well but I sat in a comfortable chair in Janice’s studio and watched people come and go as we talked.

There are several artist’s studios in this church- architects, fiber artist. photographers and painters.

Late Afternoon at U of Pitt Campus

Friday afternoon I was photographing senior portraits of two young women by the Cathedral of Learning at Pitt. ( no one actually says “University of Pittsburgh”)

In between their outfit changes, I photographed the tall tower in different lights.

see how the sun changes the color of the Indiana limestone? Magic

Then a bride and groom walked by, just married!

I asked if I might photograph them and they said, sure!

I even asked the groom to move a bit so his mouth wasn’t hidden. Sweet.

Those were some killer heels (in blue)

And then a woman walked by with balloons.

There was a beautiful tree

It was fun to see some different sights. And capture them, too.

All in all it was a magical afternoon, especially with the unexpected barefoot bride and the balloon woman.

I was fascinated to see so many in just a few blocks as we drove to the playground. Today I made a run to buy knitting needles on Indianola and wound around the tree lined streets and came across of few more. Thought they would be good for the weekly photo challenge=

Maura loves arts and crafts, swimming, piano lessons, dancing, going to the Children’s Museum in Pittsburgh and taking good care of her dolls. She brings a lot of energy and spirit to the party, that is for sure! Have a wonderful birthday, Maura.

Autumn Leaf Delight at the Playground

Laura and Charlie enjoying the crunch of the leaves at the playground this morning.

I tried to be an observer, not a participant. Watched them play together. Just kept shooting, trying to be unobtrusive.

Kept my distance and sorry I didn’t have a zoom lens.

It was a happy time. A joy to watch Charlie have fun in the leaves.

The bear hat doesn’t quite fit right but old grandma will knit another one.

Big slide, the swings, finding a shadow, mommy hide behind the tree trunk, throw the leaves, kick the leaves, stomp and crunch pick up a big stick.

No shortage of games and activities.

He was trying to master the balance beam, figure it out. Too hard but the fact he was trying was something to watch.

One direct smile at old Froo Froo Ruthie.

Yes he knew I was there! Hard not to notice that sock monkey who sits on the 24-70 lens.

Yarnbyrds: A Gourmet Yarn Truck

My son-in-law James saw a story about a yarn store on wheels. Here’s the clip on Columbus television. YARNBYRDS,LLC THE YARN TRUCK

James knows I like to knit and enjoy good yarn so this morning he sent me a link from the local paper aticle about Yarnbyrds Columbus Dispatch.

A converted RV is a yarn store? I’m in!

The ~~Food Truck~~ craze has inspired a gourmet Yarn Truck. What a wonderful idea.

Found the phone number and called Robin and this evening I was able to go and visit “Birdie” ( the mobile yarn store’s nickname) and make some wonderful gourmet yarn purchases, too.

Here’s Yarnbirds website for details on the delicious yarn and a calendar of where Birdie will be parked, so you can check it out, too! A terrific selection to choose from- I know I’ll be back.

Robin’s husband Tom did all the LED lighting in the truck and so all the yarn shows in true color which is really important in a yarn store! He’s an electrical engineer.

Robin creates the project bags. There’s jewelry and Drunk Yarn kits for dying.

The Forklift Will Come Today

I was astounded by the huge amount of donations at the Ohio State natatorium on Sunday afternoon where I attended the 2016 Thanks for Giving Fall Classic Swim Meet & Food Drive.

Monday, a forklift will come to transport the huge containers to a truck for delivery. All the swimmers from competing teams brought food for the Mid-Ohio Food Bank

Four of my grandkids swim for the hosting Ohio State Swim Club.

Seeing these overflowing containers was a reminder to not only be grateful for all I have but to remember people in need. The swim meet announcer read the statistics of who is hungry and it is painful to know.

Witnessing the swim families’ generosity and knowing people are hungry and rely on the donated food was a sight I wanted to share.
