Winter Tree at the Playground

My granddaughter Anna (13) texted me this photo from Ohio, just after I returned to Pittsburgh. I’d  a week’s visit with both families. It was warm enough to play at the playground today. img_3251

I thought it a good composition

Then she sent me the second photo and I could see some warm lights through the trees.

You might remember Anna’s photo  of the pick-up truck full of mannequin legs on a snowy highway.  From 4 years ago        Click to see Anna’s photo from 2012

Maura, Jack and Michael in the late afternoon.

Took this the Saturday after Thanksgiving when the grandkids and I visited Aunt Mary in NYC. It was a wonderful piece of playground equipment, made in Germany.

We were headed to the Staten Island Ferry- at the end of the day our walking total was just shy of nine miles.

Autumn Leaf Delight at the Playground

Laura and Charlie enjoying the crunch of the leaves at the playground this morning.

I tried to be an observer, not a participant. Watched them play together.  Just kept shooting, trying to be unobtrusive.

Kept my distance and sorry I  didn’t have a zoom lens.

It was a happy time.  A joy to watch Charlie have fun in the leaves.

The bear hat doesn’t quite fit right but old grandma will knit another one.

Big slide, the swings, finding a shadow, mommy hide behind the tree trunk, throw the leaves, kick the leaves, stomp and crunch pick up a big stick.

No shortage of games and activities.

He was trying to master the balance beam, figure it out.  Too hard but the fact he was trying was something to watch.

Local:What Feels Like Home

img_9880Jen H at WordPress has created the weekly Photo Challenge: Local.

What feels familiar, home. The places you know by heart. Local diner, local playground, local neighborhood, local church, local streets-I live in the city by a park.

I notice I shoot a lot of local coffee, too.

Here’s my iPhone local gallery.  Pittsburgh.

The Swing, a Slide, a Tunnel, Peek

26753299721_11b5fa3254_kThis is a new sensation.  Laura gave him a little push.

Laura and Charles (10 months) came to visit Grandma in Pittsburgh.

Fortunately I have a playground in the park across the street.

I used the 70-200 lens to document his visit.

Fun to catch him enjoying this playground equipment for the first time. At least the first time I’ve seen him experience a playground.   They returned home to Ohio yesterday but I was savoring their visit when I went through the photos tonight.

Found Message at the Playground

Beneath Your Feet is the weekly photo challenge

Signage, written in chalk.  No one else around don’t know who wrote it on the pavement in from of the bench.

Sunday evening, we were at the playground with my two youngest grandchildren.  My sister Mary  is the one who pointed it out.

Of course, I had my cell phone to capture and share!  Didn’t walk on it. Just wondered who felt compelled to write it.

Hang up and parent sign

The House is Quiet

The four grandchildren were here since Thursday night and their mom and dad went to a wedding in Philly this weekend.

We had a nice time together and the house is feeling pretty empty now.

Today they watched Steve remove a dead squirrel out of the fireplace and take it outside.   Michael said, “You’ve got an animal in your fire pit.”

Thank goodness for the glass doors. Guess that screen on top of the chimney came off!
