Someone Left a Fake Fur in the Snow

White snow on white fur. Too bright, the reflected light.  But what looks like just a pile of snow is some white fake fur puddled on the sidewalk as I got out of the car to go into school Monday morning.

Close up of the white fur with snow on top.

Cantilevered House,View 2, Friday on the Way to School

You saw my photo through the foggy school bus windshield.  Friday morning there was a train going by as I shot this but the cars were flat.  Couldn’t wait for that to change. It was a nice touch, to hear it speeding by on the track above.

I shot this outside the window, not through it and since I was the driver this time, I pulled to the side of the road.  Not a lot of time to experiment or revise on the way to school and no time to get out of the car.  Oh yes, iPhone camera not regular camera.

You read about this home in the New York Times last week.  If you wish to compare the shot from my previous post it is here.

It’s a cool view to see every morning. I watched them build it but didn’t document it. Too bad. One for the regret category.  Since most blog readers are out of town and can’t swing by to see this more clearly and are relying on my view, I wanted to show this unusual home in a nice light. And the school bus was parked.

Morning sun instead of rain and fog, clears up the view.

The Passenger’s View

Took the eighth grade on a Field Trip to the Carnegie Museum of Art to view the Tennie Harris,Photographer: American Story show. We had a wonderful day.  Here’s the view from the passenger seat.  (note the sidewalk on the right is stairs!) You can see the stop sign at the bottom of the hill.  And the reflection of the  school bus in the right side mirror. Shot through glass on a snowy day.

Through the front window. It was great to be a passenger.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Possibility

The challenge spoke of doors and paths, travel.  This is what Arlington Avenue looked like on the way to school Thursday morning.  The October light made the brick building seem to glow.  That is the color it was when I saw it.  No retouch on that brick.  Just morning sun.  I like to think that the start of the day offers POSSIBILITY.

What I saw on the way to school Thursday morning. Shot through my windshield.

Sally Said, Things Come in Threes

Drove to the Post Office at lunchtime to mail a package. On the way back to school I saw this horse’s head. Not the whole rocking horse, it’s true but  a horse nonetheless.  And Sally had said how things come in threes and to look for that third horse. One block from school.   He was waiting for me to find him?  There he was.  How many times had I driven by him before?  Who knows. But today I saw him.

What his story is I do not know.

By the (Ominous) Dawn’s Early Light

On the way to school, a bus stops. Traffic stops. I take a photo of the scene. One streetlight on, one streetlight off.

A massive cloud–
a golden light
The school bus’s red lights
Everyone stops.
The dawn reflected
in street signs.

Urban Bird Housing

Driving from one school to another I vary my route. Not specifically looking for photos, just trying to find a good way to go with the least traffic flow. Colorful bird houses dangling from the branches of a city tree made me smile.

Seeing these colorful houses and thinking of the person who put them in this tree, cheered me!

Once a Turkey

Actually captured this shot on the way into school last week before the holiday but it seemed a good one to post today.  It’s been pouring all day(Tuesday), the mood particularly grim and gray.  Snow is threatened but the temperature will have to drop twenty degrees. Don’t know the recipe of the smashed turkey dessert but it looks like Oreos and candy corn and a Devil’s Food cupcake were involved. I guess the green is frosting?  When I went to examine it after school, it was just a total grease spot on the concrete step. The smashed turkey was gone.

By afternoon, this turkey had disappeared. Looks like it took the bottom of someone's shoe first!

Found Doll

Today I drove across the city from one school to another and returned at the end of the day, drove around the block, just to see how the light had changed on the scene with the doll. The white soft body and bright limbs caught my eye.  I will drive by tomorrow morning and see if anyone picked up the doll.

Can you tell I was driving down the hill? Arlington is full of hills.
