The 19th President

We were headed to Kenyon College to watch my grandsons in a swim meet. Mark asked me which President graduated from Kenyon College. After a couple of bad guesses he said we shared the first four letters in our names. Then I answered correctly with that clue. How could I miss?

On our way through town, headed to campus.

Thanks Joanne for this unique teapot. Rutherford is peeking out in the right.

Annual Presidents’ Teapot Shot

Last year I had the handle to the right. George was a bit more in focus. It sits in my China cabinet on the top shelf.

The date imprinted on the bottom of the teapot is 1966. Not sure if newer versions of Presidents on a teapot exist. This one is enough for me.

Yes that’s George Washington on a plate

Tea Time at a Friend’s Table

Tea time at a friend’s table, Monday afternoon. A lovely respite, good conversation, catching up, topics- family and friends, the state of our world. A plate of chocolate filled cookies. A gracious hostess offering a cup of tea. We toasted and clinked our delicate teacups. To friendship.

Cheers!

Ice Crystals on the Window in Morning – Solar Light on Snow at Night

Crystals on a Window in the MorningHere is the view from my bedroom window.

Although the sun was shining, the thermometer dipped enough to cause schools to be closed today.  In fact, they were calling it Arctic Blast.  We weren’t in as bad shape as Atlanta, though.  What a mess.

Lemon Cheesecake

A friend picked me up, drove me down the hill  to Park Bruges Café where I ordered the Lemon Cheesecake for dessert, serious comfort food.  We used to work together but don’t see each other often so it was fun catching up. You can see how the sunlight streamed into the window where we sat.

Forty years ago my sister gave me a set of Farberware Pans. They have seen a LOT of use.

Mary’s  coming to visit for the weekend and I was trying to get the dark burned- on grease off the bottom of the pan. I only noticed it as it hung on the rack, thinking about how she keeps her Revere Pans’ copper so shiny as it hangs over her stove in NYC.  I solved the problem of not being able to get it all off.   Tried some internet remedy with vinegar but it didn’t quite work so this is what I did so the bottom didn’t show.  What I should post  is a photograph of the bottom so you could be horrified but the idea is to camouflage the undesirable pan bottom.

Solar Light on SnowDropped off a birthday gift for a friend and then I was over at the neighbors and on my way home, I noticed their solar lamp’s rays radiating on the snow.

It was quite dramatic.

iPhone captures today.

My Sister Gave Me This As a Joke But it Adds to the Kitchen Decor

I recently did a photographic session of a Jell-o salad mold.

No kidding.

I don’t think I have a future in food photography and come to think of it, there isn’ t anything of food value in Jell-o.  It was a challenge and I will post the results of that after the photograph is made public at a charity auction.

But I looked up as I sat at the kitchen table and chuckled when I saw The Jell-o Cookbook there on the shelf.  I reciprocated and sent her the Heinz Ketchup Cookbook.  I am sure she hasn’t made anything out of that cookbook either.

Laura gave me the RECIPES notebook and it is filled with clippings and family favorites
