Weekly Photo Challenge: Infinite

When I was at the Mattress Factory for Professional Development last Tuesday, a colleague and I slipped into this room, part of the permanent exhibition.

And the name of the room is perfect for the challenge...     Infinity Dots Mirrored Room.  (click to see the museum’s photo of the installation)

The black light gives you a strange sensation when you’re in there. You can lose your equilibrium.

It’s really cool.  You should come to Pittsburgh and experience this mirrored, polka dotted space.  The going into the actual room as compared to  viewing an iPhone snap of it, is quite different. The limitations of technology.

The artist- YAYOI KUSAMA created the installation.

You can watch the short documentary about her and her artwork below.

Happy Golden Birthday Anna- Ten Years Old on 10/10

Double digits.  Oh my!

I remember the day I became a grandmother. (along with FF Marlene) What a lovely day.  The day you were born.

Two grandmothers

Now your dad is taking photos of you learning to play the cello and sending them to me on the phone.

Photographing you has always been fun. Documenting your growing up!  Here’s a little slideshow to celebrate YOU!

lots of love,  Your grandma- FF Ruthie

p.s.   There are hundreds, probably thousands of photographs of you in my archives. When you were born I bought my first digital SLR camera! It was hard to choose  for the birthday post.

Urban Madonna, North Side- Middle and Suismon Streets

Looks like a tear has rolled down her left cheek.

You might remember a winter post of another Urban Madonna from January 2011 (complete with Beatles lyrics0

Our Lady Queen of Peace– not sure if the church building is occupied as they have combined parishes due to population decline.

(I’m sure a Pittsburgher who reads this can straighten this out and I will edit the post.     Bill? )

Taken Tuesday late afternoon after a Gallery Walk at the Mattress Factory- Art Teacher Professional Development.

Directly across from Max’s Allegheny Tavern where we discussed the Gallery Walk.

Do You Even Think About What You See in the Trash?

Due to Penn Avenue closure, I ended up in a Bloomfield Alley and caught this trash scene with the iPhone as I waited to get out into the main road.

Do you think people get tired of looking at what’s on their wall?

Follow Me to Forbes Field Vintage Sign

Saw this sign on the back wall behind the Cobra Kings band at Excuses on the South Side Friday night. The kitchen door is on the right, the spice rack a blur.

Some of you may know how Baseball in October is a big thrill in the city of Pittsburgh right now, after twenty one years without a winning season we have one now…. and then some!

Another game against the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow afternoon. On our home field of PNC Park. Everyone is hoisting the Jolly Roger flags and cheering them on.

Forbes Field Forever is a website which maintains the memories although the actual field is no longer there, but the brick wall with the painted distance numerals is still in Oakland, covered with some ivy. Home plate in a U of Pitt building floor, covered with plexiglass for all to see. GO BUCS!

Tugboat and Barges on the Monongahela

Saturday afternoon, after the poetry reading at the Pump House, I walked outside.

I saw the tug pushing the loaded barges up the Mon towards the Rankin Bridge.

Because the leaves are still on the trees, I had to find an open space to catch the scene before it got away. Carrie Furnace is in the background.   Shot with the iPhone5.
